There’s no doubt safety Bernard Pollard has brought an edge to the Titans defense.

But he’s also hurt the team with unnecessary roughness/personal foul penalties that have resulted in 15-yard penalties, and fines. Pollard has been fined $52,000 on three hits this season, and he’s expected to fined for two hits in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars as well.

Pollard hit Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne late on one play, and hit him in the helmet area on a pass rush.

“You always have to remind guys of things you can’t do,’’ defensive coordinator Jerry Gray said. “It’s all about the team, and it’s not about an individual person on defense. I think Bernard did bring the edge. He brought the attitude, where guys have to understand that.

“But then you have to go out there and play within the rules. … When you get on the football field, play smart and don’t hurt the team. And he understands that.”

I agree that we don't need the 15 yard penalties... but dang, I like the attitude he's brought to our defense....when it shows up.

They should be saying they want defenders to be able to play defense.

I watched an interview with Michael Roos yesterday and when asked whats the biggest difference since coming into the league, he said it's a lot less physical. When later asked about the future of the NFL he said - "the National Flag league"? LOL Roos knows what up.

That's funny right there. Especially coming from an offensive lineman. Imagine how the defenders feel... Right before a sack they have to be thinking...okay, I can't hit him high, or low, or late, or too hard, or in the head, or I'll get a flag and a fine.

    Goodell sucks.

Yea I'd have no beef with Goodell if he would just stop fining everyone for every little thing. I mean its not my money, but a flag should be enough.

The NFL expects the defenders to make quality decisions in split seconds. Sometimes you can't even tell if there should be a flag when you watch it on instant replay so I don't understand how the NFL can justify the fines. I don't think they take in to account at how fast this game is being played. They just fine the crap out of the players and put it in their pockets. Like pollard said weeks ago, he wants to know what charity it goes to and he would like to pick his own charity but the nfl never got back to him on that. Goes right in to their greedy pockets!
