I don't really care about the NHL, but here we go again with old as f*** retired players jumping on the lawsuit bandwagon about injuries they sustained in voluntary sports games. Pretty soon there's not going to be any leagues worth watching. NBA is a joke with the rule bending and outcomes decided by "fouls". MLB is a just a joke because it's boring as hell. NFL is turning into flag football. NHL will go the same route as outlaw any checking that's not shoulder to shoulder.

Hey, good job ex players who blew their money and want an easy cash grab, you ruined it for everyone.

I dont really mind hockey players doing this, there's a reason I stopped playing hockey and started playing football. Hockey is flat out dangerous, this actually makes sense.

And the way the NHL encourages brawls, they have to pay up or change their rules. The players should win this with ease.

They know what they are getting into when they sign up, this isn't some hidden secret that there is open fighting and hard hits in hockey, those that want to play already know this. It's like me jumping off of a bridge and trying to sue the city for making the bridge too high. So retarded.

There is one key difference between the two. Most of the concussions that come in football come from play that is a part of the game. Most of the concussions in hockey come from play that is outside the game. Like high sticking, hits from behind and fighting.

The NHL also has very flimsy helmet rules. Wayne Gretzky played most of his career with a helmet that was little more than a thin piece of plastic with an ultra-thin liner. Many players would not even fasten the helmet to their head. The chin strap would dangle about an inch below their chin.

Anyone remember Eric Lindros's younger brother Brett? Career ended due to concussion at age 24. Was checked hard enough that his helmet was dislodged before he hit the ice. He then cracked his unprotected head on the ice. Was real sad.

So what about our US Veterans? They were compensated while serving, should they lose their benefits since they "knew what they were getting into"?

I mean dont get me wrong, a part of me sides with you on this, but then theres the reality that some of these men can't function today because of what they did for the game. Why can't these billion dollar empires pay a few bucks to take care of their own?

Sigh. One is a sport. Soldiers don't sue the government because they weren't warned about possible injuries.. there's your difference.

Yes clearly the 2 are different but still. Sports have become a lifestyle in this country, its more than just a game nowadays. Pro players do sacrifice a lot during their playing careers, sometimes the owners do owe them a little more, especially the ones hurting after they retire.

SCOTUS ruled in 1950 that soldiers are not able to sue the government. If they could I'm sure a lot of them would.

Should MMA fighters start suing the UFC for injuries they sustained years ago? What's the difference?
