Morgan is not your ideal 34 OLB. He's much more bordering on the 5 tech DE. Add 10 LBs. Good against the run. Decent rusher. Good size. Him at 270 trying to cover would be pretty hilarious. He would be out of his element. Those rush LBs are normally around 250, leaner and much faster.

got to agree with headonaswivel here. I don't think morgan translates to a 3-4 olb or a 3-4 end. But, we are going to run a hybrid system at first, which he would fit in just fine. If we can move him for a 3rd or better, I'd do it (don't see this happening). For anything less than that it's worth it to see what he can do in the 3-4 hybrid. But, either way if he stays I think he needs to drop some weight and train only on coverage skills.

All 4-3 DEs in college who play or played most of their careers as OLB in 3-4 schemes.

The primary qualification of a 3-4 OLB is to rush the passer. Where else is the rush going to come from? Coverage ability is secondary.

If you have 3 big 300 lb guys up front who in the f*ck is going to rush the passer? The OLB just like a DE in the 4-3.

You don't get David Thornton type guys to play OLB you get edge rushers.

An ideal guy would be like Jevon Kearse circa 1999-2002. A guy who weighs 255 lbs and runs a 4.5 40. Why would he have to be ideal? 3-4 end could be a better position for him but we have several 300 lb guys to play there and hardly anybody to play outside.

His skill set is barely above average at a 43 De. Not flashy, but does his job.

As a 34 end, you'd ask him to shed 10-15 LBs, pick up some speed and range. 255... Okay. Still not sure his frame and style of play is nearly explosive enough for that position.

I don't care who we have that is 300 LBs. You figure out a way to give this guy snaps. He's been consistent. Not great, above average, serviceable... But nothing about his game makes me think he can be a great rush specialist... I just don't see it. Maybe he can prove me wrong but it would be an extreme surprise.

You mean 3-4 OLB right? As a 3-4 end he would add weight.

If we don't resign Ropati and don't play casey at NT that means Casey and Hill are our likely starters at 3-4 end with Martin and Klug backing them up. Less need there and the best value in the draft where we pick is at 3-4 end with Tuitt and Hageman who i'm starting to like better players than Barr or Mack anyway.

It's possible that Morgan would only play those 50% of snaps when we are in a 4 man front anyway. When we are in a 4-2-5 nickel or the 4-1-6 dime. But if he is going to be a regular part of our base 3-4 i like him as a big SAM type OLB who would be good against the run.

Someone needs to tell RT up there he is comparing the best linebackers in the league to an average DE.

According to this article Todd Mcshay thought Morgan was viable as a 3-4 OLB prospect and looked good in the 10% of snaps where he stod up at Ga tech. The fins worked him out but did not take him 12th obviously. The fins traded back to the 28th pick and drafted Jared Odrick.

Some Todd Mcshay comments about Morgan in 2010.

"recently he has shown the ability to play out of a two-point stance and drop into coverage on zone blitzes."

That was before the knee injury and when Morgan weighed about 10 lbs lighter. That could matter.
