Given that he cut to 145 in the past and then was back up to 174 by the fight, I don't think the weight was that big of a deal. I think they both walk around at about 180.

He did real well in round 1. Stamina was a major factor in the fight along with the wrestling skills. The trash talk is STILL unbelievable from Connor. He says, "
If another champion goes up 2 weights let me know."

It's not like he won going up 2 weights though...

Also he says he normally weighs around 170 and has to go through extreme cutting to fight at 145.. Weird that he can't fight at his own walking around weight class isn't it?

Hope Mac fights Aldo in UFC 200.

Only heavyweights fight at their normal walking around weight. The majority of fighters cut a minimum of 20 lbs, some cut more. I don't like McGregor but jumping 25 lbs up isn't as easy as you might think. A better fight would not have involved a catch weight but a specified weight. Diaz is a Huge Richard, with that said I wish they had both beaten each other to a pulp.

He didn't really go up 2 classes, though. He was supposed to fight Dos Anjos at 155. He had one of the toughest cuts in fighting at 145 and many thought that he wouldn't/couldn't do it any more. They were practically carrying him off weigh-in stage at 145.

Also, Diaz wasn't training for a fight. He had 10 days. Realistically, he isn't going to be able to do his normal cut. I would think taking that fight in 10 days is a lot tougher than fighting close to your training weight. This fight would have been 155 if they had a couple more weeks.

I realize that, what I'm saying is he normally fights at 145. Jumping 1 weight class is one thing jumping 2 is another, it's yet another to fight over that at 168. Diaz didn't even make weight for 168. He weighed in at 169. If you know the Diaz brothers they are always in training. 2 guys one fights at 145 normally one fights at 170 regularly... there is a difference in strength pure and simple. While McGregor may be able to push people around at 145 it's just not gonna happen at 165 or higher. There's a reason fighters cut weight. There's also a reason lightweights don't just jump to middleweight or why welterweight don't jump up and fight light heavyweights. Walking around weight doesn't translate into fighting weights for the vast majority of fighters.

Conor moved up to 155. The Dos Anjos fight was 155. The other fights he was talking about were 155. People were saying he was done with 145. Nate Diaz is a 155'er. All his other fights were at 155.

They are both effectively 155'ers. The weight thing is a cop out.

If you say so. Cop out... have you ever gotten into a ring? There's a reason they have weight classes talk to anyone who's ever gotten into a ring even to spar. There is a huge difference in fighting a middleweight and a light heavy or a featherweight fighting a middleweight. There are exceptions to the rule but few.

I've grappled, but never any striking. Don't want to get hit in the head.

...but I'm not saying that weight classes aren't important. I'm saying that Nate Diaz is a 155er. He has fought at that weight for years. It isn't like he was fighting the Rumble Johnson back when he cut to 170 or someone that is a big welterweight today. Diaz fights at 155 which is where McGregor is trying to fight.

The UFC Welterweight class 156-170lbs. He regularly fights around 170. I fact he weighed in over 170 when he fought Rory Markham, both were over, Diaz 171 and Markham 177, it ended up as a catch weight fight. Sorry if you see it different but size matters. His natural size over McGregors natural size matters. Again it's why they have weight classes. It's why guys cut from 185 to fight at 170 or guys cut from 225 to 2005 it gives them an advantage over guys who are naturally at that weight.
