More context on that "elite o line" - we are helping them constantly. Keeping extra blockers in helps that grade. Goes hand and hand.

Also I did a short case study on our passing scheme Vs protections in week 4 against the Texans.

    Mariotas stat line, 13/29...

I counted 14- 5 man protections with 9 of them as completetions...9/14- along with 1 drop and 1 DPI...

The other half with extra protection and less
    Options? 4/15

We are trying to maximize Mariotas throwing by using him specifically in schemes that help him get the ball out quickly recently. Does it show our hand? Yea but it hasn't effected much besides his fantasy output maybe.

We DO need more fusion in the run/pass setups. We DONT need more WRs on the field since that seems to be the argument.

Mariota from traditional drops has been pretty real bad. Hard to build the pass attack from that formation when he's having trouble with it. We should lean on more runs from gun with Henry to balance the attack.

Oh and I remember seeing a comment saying Mariota would be better in a WC offense. Those require UC drops and timing/release that Mariota already struggles with. I can't see how it would correlate to helping him.

    1. No quarterback has been successful for very long in the NFL running spread option and pass run options. Not one.

    2. "Maximizing his Ceiling" also raises the likelihood of seeing his floor. It makes him a much more likely IR candidate.

To borrow an analogy from someone above, it's like having a Ferrari and driving it 150 mph everywhere and keeping the rpms above the redline. Just because it can.

You end up with a broken piece of **** like rg3.

    3. Ultimately, mariota has to learn to play under center NFL football. I think what we are doing now protects him and gives us the best chance to win.

Down the road, id like to see more of a patriots style offense.

I'm fine with trying to protect our QB for now. Hopefully he can play more consistent with the limited amount of opportunities. That and the idea that maybe this offense forces Mariota to improve on the weak areas of his game are the positives that I see in this offense. Over time I do expect the offense to center more around him than our aging RB.

Block and release TEs and RBs could be the cure.

Keep in mind Whisenhunt was letting Mariota run, Mariota kept getting knocked the eff out. I dont want to see Mariota running, that is not a good thing. If Mariota is running that means the play has broken down. I want to see him moving in the pocket, avoiding a rush and making a positive play, not turning into a runner.
