Nintendo devs have relied on knowing the hardware inside and out since the NES; furthermore, since the DS, Nintendo has focused on hardware specific quirks (or gimmicks, whichever) for their games, giving their game developers the ability to have input into the console and then build their games around those ideas. These are benefits they likely wouldn't have as a 3rd party.

Furthermore, I would expect Nintendo to lose a lot of people if they did go 3rd party (similar to Sega). Certainly Miyamoto and Aonuma wouldn't hang around.

Like I said, as an old school Sega fan, I've seen that song and dance before. Post-Dreamcast Sega is nothing compared to what they were before.

Well, if by "trash tier" you mean "poorly marketed and didn't sell well in all regions", then sure. If you mean the actual game libraries, uh... no.

I worded that terribly. I meant sega was bad until DC which was good.

Genesis was probably the second best marketed product in the 90s next to apples coloured macs. Marketing is the soul reason genesis did as well as it did. SNES shat all over the genesis.

NES trounced the master system in terms of library as did SNES vs genesis.

Saturn was lolbad next to a PS1.

DC was only system that did everything right.

That's subjective. I'd take the Saturn library (especially with the Japanese library included for all the great 2D gaming) over the PS1/N64 libraries any day of the week (of course, about 6 of my current top 10 games of all time were Saturn exclusives at the time, and about 4 of them still are (Panzer Dragoon Saga, Blast Wind, Hyper Duel, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru; with Panzer Dragoon and Radiant Silvergun being ported to another systems later (actually, NiGHTS might be on my top 10 as well, not sure... FFVI, FFIV, NFL2K1, and Morrowind would have to fit in there as well)).

Heh, amusingly it's now probably the cheapest of the games I posted.

I used to have a massive Saturn collection 500+ games (all US games) and 30 or so consoles), but sold most of it in 2008 and lived off of that for a year or so to focus on school. Regret it these days though... one of the worst decisions I ever made.
