Yet you can't actually back up anything you are saying. You're just saying Mariota deserves his #1 receiver, because it sounds good. Our offense was nearly top 10 last year, with what amounts to mostly rookies and second year players. I wouldn't mind a legitimate #1 guy either, but I'm not going to sit there and say do it at the expense of things we absolutely need to fix.

You seem to hope we reach for Ross at 5. I hope we make a team that can compete for a Super Bowl this year instead. I say lets leave it at that.

Our run game ranked near top and our pass game ranked towards the bottom half of the league. I'd like to see a more balanced attack next season. Only way to do that is to get a couple of guys that can make the passing game more explosive. Doesn't mean I dont agree that we can't go defense in first. I'm all about winning games too.

Yes, to be a contenda, we need better play on pass D. Cyprien and Byard likely start at S, but we could still draft another, as we often use different DB combos. Also could use another CB. Also an ILB. With so many good DB'S in this draft tho', that may happen in the 3rd, where we have multiple picks. Byard was a 3rd round pick. I think an ILB at #18 makes sense, and because we are such a TE heavy offense and Howard is already a skilled blocker, and Walker is getting older, he makes sense at #5.

Depends the statistics and how you want to compare. Yards alone, 25th, but attempts 28th and 12th in YPA.
Basically, we were right in the middle in YPA we just didn't throw the ball that much. I don't see our general offensive scheme changing too much no matter who we draft.

For argument sake, Titans Pass D in yds -30th, YPA - 16th, ATT - 31st, TD allowed 17th, INT - 18th. Teams were definitely not afraid to pass against this D. Only Atl had more passes thrown against. The D was middle of the pack or lower in YPA against, TD against and INT taken.

This secondary needs a lot of help and Cyprien and Ryan aren't THE fix. Need to draft D. This draft is deep at WR and TE, both can be had in the 3rd or later.

If you are looking for a WR to come in from day 1 and start on the outside then you better take Davis. If you are just looking to upgrade the slot position then waiting till the 3rd is fine.

I agree that solid CBs, TEs and WRs can be had in the 3rd. Does make you wonder about drafting safety and ILBer in the 1st.

As good as the Safeties may be, it just seems like we already have too many. ILB is a position we need to upgrade. I'd like to see Foster on the Titans. I still think we need another good CB.

I agree about ILBer. Williamson will be a FA after this yr. certainly could go ahead and upgrade the spot....not at #5 though.

That's because we run a lot and Mariota only passes the ball 30 times a game. Our passing game was fairly effective this year, and that is with nearly the whole group of starters on offense being new or rookie/sophomore players. This offense is only going to get better whether we draft somebody or not.

One notable data point here for Ross is his 60.7 percent success rate vs. double coverage. Opposing defenses double-covered Ross on 28 routes in his Reception Perception sample, second only to Taywan Taylor among charted receivers this year. Despite that extra attention, Ross rose to the challenge with a success rate mark 14 points higher than the prospect average.

What most will be dying to know regarding Ross’ Reception Perception is how he performed against press coverage. Ross’ statistical production fell silent against Alabama in the college playoff series with just five catches for 28 yards. This exacerbated concerns about how the slight receiver works against press coverage. Those concerns can be dialed back a bit as Ross maintained a 73.2 percent success rate vs. press coverage, which was the fourth-best score recorded this year and falls above the 78th percentile.

Copied that from an article about Ross being more than just a speed guy. He can also be our #1WR. Is that worth the 5th pick? We don't really know but I won't be mad about it though. You can't predict who will have the most impact on the next level. I understand going defense. It makes sense. But I'm going to also consider the options we have on offense as well. Our passing game sorely needs a guy that draws double teams and beats man coverage consistently.
