I have always wanted to do this and felt like it was time. I went through my experiences of playing games and hand picked my top 50 of all time. This list will vary quite a bit from the typical lists. It will include a ton of classic inclusions as well.

This thread will be an ongoing thread. I hope to hit a game or two a day with good sized write ups. If the thread is well liked I will run it beyond my top 50. These write ups will be different from your usual lists. I will include personal anecdotes and breakdowns of the game itself during the time I experienced it.

I would like to keep this thread clean. Lots of amazing games are going to be missing. Lots of games are going to be on here that people won't agree with. I haven't played every game nor were my experiences memorable for amazing games. Criticism for the games at hand is fine. I enjoy constructive discussion. I hope to help people find games they may have looked past.

Here we go! I introduce you to...

This game came out at the end of the great Sim era of the early 2000's. As games strayed away from the top down sandbox look The Movies came out during this weird time. It is one of a kind and very unique yet flawed. At the time I had no idea who Peter Molyneux was and the hype cycle he created during his heyday. I was very hyped for this game leading up to its release. In my early teens I was big into old film. This game came at a perfect time to hit that nerve. It did not disappoint in the least.

In The Movies you are the operator and manager of a movie studio. The aspects you are able to control is very cool. You can control the sets and facilities and all financial aspects of the lot. Much like Roller Coaster Tycoon. The greatest addition is the writing and directing aspect. You are able to create your own movies. It gets quite in depth. You can direct the movement, emotion and facial expressions of your stars. You may even forget the sandbox sim is their after digging deep into this feature.

The depth behind these two features is pretty crazy for the year of 2005. It is absolute freedom. You run your studio from the 1920's all the way to 2020 and beyond. You have to maintain your facilities, research new techniques, watch your stars rise and fall, win awards. A small thing such as the time passing is quite amazing. It takes you through different tastes of those eras in film, fashion and music. The radio playing over while you are playing is an amazing throwback to decades gone by.

If you were a big fan of sim games like Roller Coaster Tycoon I cannot recommend this more. A film buff should be persuaded to play it as well. It is a major time sink game leaving you wondering where the time has gone. It still holds up today. If you are able to find this game physical you should try it out. Sadly it is unavailable digitally as of right now.

Oh boy, the arena shooter scene was a crazy time in the early 2000's. These were the CoD's of the day. This game was direct competition to the new franchise Unreal Tournament. A time before camping, this was pure speed and action. You could fly around the maps playing versus bots but online play was where it was at. I remember this being one of my first online shooters. I was HOOKED.

During an era when everything was single player it was odd for a game to come without a campaign. This was one of the first of its kind. Relying on the addiction of online competition to convince people to play. It worked very well. Maps focused on being vertical, having jump pads to fling you high into the air. To scale it down its secondary factor are tight corridors. The weapon variety is amazing. Each gun having its pros and cons. I preferred using the slow but powerful rocket launcher. Others may be more inclined to the quick shooting rail gun.

It also brought the announcer to the table. There is no better feeling having an announcer telling you that you have taken first place after watching an enemy explode at the other end of your rocket launcher. This was improved upon later through the Unreal Tournament franchise but felt special in Quake 3 Arena.

You know this is a good game when 17 years later it is still being played. Games have trouble maintaining online service for a year after release let alone 17. If you have never experienced the greatness of online arena shooters I highly recommend you dive into the arena.

Your list sucks and you should feel bad. #1 on your list is the most overrated game of all time. Blah blah is a better game than bleh bleh. You suck! Kill yourself!

Now that all of that is out of the way, I look forward to your top fiddy.

Pretty sure 50 and 49 are PC games but you should have a mark in there to clarify for those of us that may not know which system they're for.
