To be fair Gut, Auburn's run Offense is crazy tricky and the ILB most likely has 4 keys on each run play. That's part of the reason why Malzahn has been so successful. But I understand what you're saying.

Yeah I agree. To me he should probably be playing in a 4-3 scheme to take advantage of his skillset. Otherwise, I think he will be having a harder time with guards than he should have to have.

Foster is a really nice ilb, but not worthy of the 5 pick. Our biggest needs are wr and cb. It looks like only lattimore is even possibly worth the 5th pick in both groups. If we are forced to pick at 5, it needs to be bpa or lattimore. Foster and/or howard don't/won't fit that bill. We will be picking allen, adams, hooker, barnett or lattimore the #5 pick, if are forced to stay there.

But, idt we will stay there. I think no qb goes top 4 and at 5 a team will slide up for thier guy. It's a great spot to move in on after Garrett, thomas (maybe barnett), adams and fornette are off the board. Maybe a "playoff" team reaches and give a ton or a 10ish team gives a little. Either way i think a trade happens for one of these qbs.

Agreed...but that's an obvious example. On the other hand, (don't remember if it was same game or not) there was a fake end around to the wr but then they pitched it front side to the rb outside. The wr fake should have kept Foster at home or even had him going the wrong way but he completely ignored the wr fake end around and just followed the rb. Great instincts? Or did he have man coverage on the rb or they didn't care about the wr end around? These are the types of plays fans point to and say wow! Great instincts! But those kinds of plays are question marks. And certainly asking any ILB to diagnose Auburn's run game is a tough challenge...but if he has the great instincts a lot of fans think he has (think Luke Kuechly), he would be more decisive vs that run game.

I think so too IF there are several teams that want the same guy (as in they think there is only one guy worth a top 10 grade) and they think they have to jump the Jets to get him!

I think our cast of possibilities at 5 is pretty limited to Allen, Lattimore, Adams, Hooker. Some would add Foster or Howard or Fournette but I don't see it. Would we reach for Williams or Davis? Maybe...if we couldn't trade down...but if anyone sees any of these players as a blue chipper we should have plenty of trade calls looking to move up...and that's not even counting teams that might want to trade up for a qb!

we will just have to agree to disagree.

his inside run stopping ability probably is the weakest part of his game. but i still think it'd prove an upgrade over what we have out there. but even still, we were already a solid team against the run so i'm not even that concerned. i want a play maker. i like the idea of lattimore but i haven't watched enough of him to have an opinion.

but yeah call me a little selfish too... i want to be there in nissan stadium when foster destroys someone and the place loses its mind and it finally feels like we have a real identity.

ILB is deep this year? I thought I read it wasn't, and the drop off after the top 2-3 is significant, unlike CB.

I'm ok if we take Lattimore at 5, I've been pounding the table for a top CB for years. His injuries concern me though, and it's a deep class where a trade back could net a solid CB in the 2nd. But damn would I love Foster on this team, the dude plays with reckless abandon in the middle of the field, that can help both he front 7 and the secondary.

Drafting a CB in RD 2, we have to ask ourselves...are we getting anything better than Jason McCourty? The answer is probably not.

RD 2 is not where you draft your #1 CB on a 31st ranked secondary, even in a deep draft. The drop off from Reddick/Foster isn't any more significant than the drop in CB talent. There's a lot of talented guys in rd 2-3, and I wouldn't be surprised if some guys drop to RD 2 like Cunningham and especially Davis.

At the end of the day we need to also ask ourselves are we more comfortable with Woodyard at ILB with some young guy backing him up and maybe taking his spot or McCourty at #2 and Ryan at #1 and for me the resounding answer is give me Woodyard any day of the week.

Lebeau doesn't usually flip flop his CBs to specifically follow another teams #1 WR. This draft has depth into the 2nd rnd with guys that can be plugged in as a starter at CB. Whether he is a #1CB or #2 CB is irrelevant. All he has to be is better than McCourty and I think that their are plenty of them available.

At the end of the day we have 2 1st rnd picks and we can easily upgrade ILBer with Foster or Reddick and improve our CB spot. A bonus will be if we can trade down and get a 2nd rnder because then we can fill ILber/WR/CB with our top 3 picks. Use the depth at TE to grab a solid #2TE in the 3rd.
