    Foster vs Reddick

    Clark's take

    Foster,

Pros: High Level play diagnosing. Fills his gap or finds the ball carrier like a missile. Hits like a train and played incredibly fast at only 229lbs. Shows everything you wants as a MLB tho he is undersized for that position at the next level. Good fit for the 34 if we can keep him clean and let him sift through the trash. Often around the ball.

Cons: Major concerns about his shoulders have shown up. Kicked out of the combine for getting into a physical altercation with a nurse at the medical checks. Coach Sabah made some curious statements that he needed to be baby sat in a round about way. Concerns regarding his football IQ/whiteboard ability to understand schemes and reactions. Last part seems silly because he flies all over the field

3 year player, 2 year starter. 39 games played. 120 tackles 91 assists. 23 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. 9 PDs. 2016 seasons: 18 stuffs, 6 sacks, 9 hits and 6 hurries. 21 targets 7 completions. 5 PDs, 95 yards given up.

    Reddick,

Pros: PROJECTS as the fastest linebacker at the combine running a 4.52 40 yard dash. Played as a hand down edge rusher at temple but given his size (237lbs) that's highly unlikely to be where he plays in the NFL. In college film you can find him flashing across the screen from the far hash to the field side to help run down a Runner. At the senior bowl he worked out as a LB and played the game as one and impressed scouts. He should be a decent 2 down coverage guy/click and close guy and transition into a situational pass rusher on third and long from the edge.

Cons: While he has shown in limited footage that he can possibly make the switch to off the ball Lb, it is still all a projection. Given his draft stock being in the top half of the first round currently, there's some legitimate risk about selecting him. His upside might be there but his floor could plummet rather quickly.

Appears to be a 4 year player and a 2 year starter. Played in 42 games. 99 tackles 50 assists. 47 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks. 5 PDs, 1 INT and 4 forced fumbles. 2016 season stat breakdowns not available considering temple....

I vote Foster........It's simple really for me. The guy is a full time, full go, ILB that instantly upgrades our defense. He is a heat seeking missile locked in on the ball carrier. He has attitude issues; most players with a lot of fire do have attitude. He has off field concerns with impulse control & that does concern me somewhat. However, I would take the guy that IS going to make an impact for the team day one. I would rather "Baby-sit" a star; than draft just another guy at the position.

Riddick will be making a position change. There is no sure bet that it works out. He does not have near the kind of tape/production that Foster does. If you watch the tape of them both back to back; you have to say to yourself: Riddick is not even close.......Just my opinion of course.

I agree...I like Riddick's athleticism and upside, but we are talking less proven tape, smaller school in Temple, and a position change. Foster shows it all. Lateral ability, coverage, and he hits he gaps and punishes people....We always talk about wanting attitude...Leaders...etc. That's why I go Foster here. He isn't pretty, and he's not supposed to be.

Value would be riddick, better player is foster by far. Thing that worries me about him is as violent as he plays, he isn't very big. Could be a durability issue in the league.

    I worry about that too.

He could be Colin McCarthey 2.0 for us. Great for the few games he's active.

I also worry about the fire. Yes, some is a great thing. I would love an attitude and tone setter on D. But he strikes me as another Lewan. A guy who will go high on a QB late and cost the team.

Also, yeah, on tape, he is a blur, flying around tackling everything.

But that's much easier when you have bamas line in front of you, and bamas secondary locking down receivers.

How will he do in traffic? Can he shed blocks and stay with a play?

There are a lot of questions here. Honestly, I predict the guy will be a stud for a very brief time, then ride off to a future of opiate addiction from constant injury.

One good thing about Riddick is that while he gets use to his new posistion he can still be used as a nickle pass rusher in the vain of Irvin and Beasley.

I picked Riddick for being an interchangeable part.
