BPA is a myth... it's always Best Graded Player at a position of need. Whether the GM/Coach notices the decision making or not, the grades end up being biased towards positions that they believe they NEED.

Also- Scouts and professionals alike arnt immune to group think...

Why would Blackson takes Klug's situational passer role at DT in our 4 man pass rush? Is Blackson a very good pass rusher being hidden on the roster?

Dodd can rush from there without having to bulk up. Afterall, he's pretty much the same size as Klug. Unlike our run pluggers, Klug wins with quickness, athleticism, and sheer determination. Dodd offers similar athletic advantage over interior OL with his quickness IF healthy. And we are talking 3rd and long when we are coming after the QB!

BPA was invented to give the fans something to talk about incessantly without realizing they are wrong. And it's simple to prove as you know. And yet, some die hard fans stick to the schtick and think they are 'in the know!'

Yes and no. You're right that Mularkey hasn't been given enough credit for the things he's done well, but the things he hasn't done well have also been overlooked due to our winning record. It's nice to get back to 9-7, but the qb-less Texans beat us out for the Division because we can't win IN our division. A good chunk of that is coaching!

As for JRob, I think he has brought in a few quality traits which have been talked about in previous regimes...but not acted upon. JRob is preaching competition, accountability, toughness, etc. Whiz preached accountablility and then didn't have any for anyone except maybe our WR's.

JRob has asked vets to take pay cuts and when McCourty didn't, thanks for the memories. How long was Griffen here past his time?

JRob also has brought in vet competition so players have to earn it.

And when was the last time we FIRED a coordinator mid-season after a poor showing on the field?

So there are some things to appreciate!!! There are also some things not to love...but I've enumerated those several times.

I disagree with you on a lot of this.

The Rams trade which netted us most of these picks was a good trade and frankly, slightly worse than we thought after finding out the 3rd this year would be a comp pick instead of a top 5 pick in round 3! JRob did his job. He didn't pull a fast one on them...they were just very desperate and paid for it.

We had a few opportunities to address the RT position in free agency before that draft. We didn't even attempt to fill the hole with an above avg playeron a relatively low contract or Osemele who was a pro bowl OG/OT. So having the opportunity of good to great players to fill your major holes and not even trying to land them with a ton of cap space was/is not smart.

Then in that draft, we give a 3rd in 2016 and a 2nd in 2017 to move up a few spots. The Browns raked us over the coals and we eagerly paid. We SHOULD have given them 2 3rds for that deal in 2016 and had our 2nd in 2017 (missing out on Zach Cunningham at ILB for instance). We overpaid and as I said then, we will regret giving up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick for a RT. And that's nothing against Conklin who I thought was a very good player and would fit perfectly with this team. But you don't spend that kind of draft capital on a RT in my opinion. If we had stayed put and the Giants took him as everyone expected, we would have had our choice of Eli Apple at CB (position of need and played well in 2016) or Decker at OT who also played well in 2016. And that's assuming Conklin doesn't fall to us anyway. Stranger things have happened.

Most of our improvement in 2016 is attributed to Mariota, Matthews, Murray. Mariota was already here. He added Matthews and Murray with Murray being the BIG deal both in how little we gave up and the huge impact he had on our run game and offense (and in the pass game). But we also brought in other guys like Andre Johnson, McCain, Blake, Searcy, etc. who either didn't have much of an impact or were dissapointing. Heck, McCourty and Cox were our starting CB's on paper. NOT GOOD! So a lot of misses with this bring in a bunch of guys approach.

And to top it off, not spending in free agency is seriously handicapping us vs other teams. We have $48mil in cap at the moment (could have a lot more). That's 4 star players that could be on this roster. 4 holes not only filled with good starters, but impact players!!! Why aren't we spending much of it?

As I said before, spending $4-5mil/yr on ? players is not smart when I can get a star impact player for double that. Even if you get a Matthews to earn a starting role and 'hit', he's still not a dominant player. We need more IMPACT players on the field, not 'just another guy's!

Blackson was decent at rushing the passer as a rookie and Dodd has shown literally nothing up until this point. He still even has pain in his foot. If Dodd takes over the role and excels but I'm not going to pencil his in at this very moment he has a lot to prove and the biggest is durability.

Eh I think it's easy to pick apart a draft day trade like Conklins. Kind of sticking to the patriots mold of reaching for guys they truly believe in. See Conklin, Davis, Byard...maybe even Adoree to a degree.

That's just the way he's going to work the draft. Intends on trading back and gaining some extra draft capital knowing at some point they will reach. The trade downs are ways to limit the loss of draft capital- it also works in ways to give extra capital to trade up for your guy...

He's going to reach. Expect it.

2019 is when we need all this money saved up by.

Lewan (27), Matthews (29), Walker (34), Orakpo (32), Morgan (30), and Casey (29) all come up for renewal that year...

Other than Walker all these guys will still be close to their prime in 2019 and need to be brought back for $$$
