Is the argument here that teams have to spend cap to go to a Superbowl?

Teams don't just spend money for the sake of spending money. You go after players that fit your team. There are many variables in that. Plus, you have to look towards the future when spending cap money. Also, players have to luxury of choosing which team to play for. GMs have more info on players than the general public...maybe there's something about 'player X' that makes certain teams shy away...

Who knows, Jrob and Co may have reached out to all of your favorite FA's agents but were told that the Titans werent a team the player wanted to play for. There may have been conversations with certain players and one side or the other decided it wasn't worth going further. We don't always know what goes on behind the scenes.

That being said, it has been proven time and time again that winning the offseason means nothing. Signing big names doesn't equal success on the field.

I agree with all of this.

Signing big names doesn't equal success, but signing really good football players usually does, and they usually cost more money too. In order to get better, we need to spend more.

    Right, just look at Jacksonville.

If these are such good players, and their presence automatically improves the team, why are teams letting them leave?

Wasn't this argument made about Cyprien?

Lol.... that article presented the facts as they are.

You can deny it all you want, but that article presented more evidence and facts (backed up by real numbers) than you have presented to this argument.

Cap space should be used (mostly) for re-signing your own players. Use it sparingly/wisely on free agents. It's been the pattern for success for some time in the NFL now.

Does that mean teams who spend don't occasionally win? No. See the Denver Broncos, but they also signed a HOF QB, HOF pass rusher, and a star CB.

You can deny it all you want, but the numbers say spending in FA doesn't translate to wins. Which is the exact opposite of what you are saying.

If you would like to present any facts and stats to back up your statement you can do so. But you just saying it isn't true, isn't a fact... or a stat. It's an opinion. Which you are more than welcome to share, but this article laid out FACTS and had STATS to back up those FACTS.

You said cap deficit.. you realize it's a cap surplus right? You cannot even get the terminology right Lol

Ding sing ding!! You don't just spend money because you have it.

We addressed our biggest needs this offseason and still have $48 million in cap space. Could be a lot worse "problems" for us to have.

I think it can still be debated wether Cyprien is a good football player. He's the mirror image of Daimion Stafford who's still waiting for his phone to ring.

Hahahaha..... if a team is one of the top in FA spending they are more than likely going to be a top spending team in terms of guaranteed money.

Yep... what do you know! The Titans were one of the top teams for guaranteed money too....

If you're goal is to NOT WIN a Super Bowl, then you have the right plan.

But some of us want to WIN a SB!!! Or two or three or four...

To do that we need to maximize talent ON THE FIELD! Can't do that with $50mil in cap space sitting in the bank!

Any player transitioning from one team/scheme to another has an opportunity to be better utilized and make a bigger impact.

    So we'll wait and see.
