    2017 Outlook
James is back after suffering a season-ending meniscus tear just two games into the 2016 campaign. Based on his well-rounded performance in FSU’s spring game, James appears to be back at 100 percent.

Both ESPN and Sports Illustrated listed James as the No. 1 player in college football, despite James missing most of last season and the fact that Louisville QB and 2016 Heisman winner Lamar Jackson returns. It’s a testament to James’ ability to impact the game on multiple levels on defense.

The Seminoles utilized James’ freakish athleticism in 2015, as he wreaked havoc on offenses as a true freshman. His ability to blitz and spy quarterbacks was revelatory for the defense, and he emerged as a competent deep safety as well. FSU plans to use James all over the place again this season (he worked at cornerback some this spring) and the expectation is that James should pick up where he left off.

    Why No. 2
It’s rare for a safety to impact the game like James, but that’s what makes him special. A team can typically play away from a great defensive back to an extent, but James’ ability to play in coverage, in the box or blitz the quarterback makes him impossible to avoid.

Just as important as James’ physical traits are his leadership skills. FSU’s defense clearly was lost without its emotional leader immediately after James’ injury, as the Seminoles dropped two of three games with three consecutive lackluster showings on defense. James brings versatility, intensity and overwhelming talent to FSU’s roster.

If FSU is going to contend for a national title this year, James will be a primary reason why.

Aren't you actively against IR All-Stars? I guess James would be #1 on that team.

I've listed them pretty much 1a and 1b somewhere in this subform. I wouldn't have a problem with either of them. And that's saying something coming from me, because I have a strict No Bama DB policy.
