The ISO is schemed to force teams to stick to man coverages. Gives us the +1 with the mobile QB. Shrugs*

Mariota needs people open. The more open they are, the more accurate he is. He seems to want to force throws instead of run anyway.

I have a feeling YAC will change for the better, Davis and Taywan, those two look the part with hands, juking and break away speed. As someone said in a previous post quit throwing screens to Decker! I would like to see screen plays for Henry and Taywan.

As much as some people on this site will hate seeing this, the fact is, ball placement could be much better. When a receiver catches the ball over his back shoulder, or leaning down, or jumping up to catch the ball, he isn't going to be running very far after. That is one of the reasons Mariota is so good in the red-zone. When he tosses it into the end-zone all they have to do is catch it. When he throws to a reciever who has a DB rushing at him and he has to reach back, jump up, lean down, etc. to catch the ball, he is getting tackled.

    from a Paul Kuharsky article....

Marcus Mariota threw a 23-yard pass over Oakland cornerback David Amerson, who was very well positioned. But Davis timed his leap well, rose to high-point the ball, grabbed it with two hands and fell to the ground, cradling a third-and-8 conversion.

one of the best plays of the game required the receiver to time his leap, leap well, and fall to the ground cradling the ball.

Ball placement can always be better but I don't think its the reason why we struggle to get YAC. I saw some misfires from Carr as well. Sometimes I think we ask Mariota to consistently make tough throws over and over again.

Well all QBs at the pro level are asked to consistently make tough throws over and over again. That is why they make the big money.

YAC would be down based on the cushion CB's give up.. If they play off 7-yards then our guys end up running towards them vs away... hence the low yac....
