Post-Game Thread Texans 57, Titans 14

Actually, teams haven't converted ANY 3rd and 10+'s against the Titans this season. (That was said deep into the Texans game...may have changed)

Defense has been semi-decent until they go into prevent type situations this season.

Sure, it was a brutally bad game.... Everything snowballed into a game where nothing was going right. But were you saying these things the last 2 weeks when the Titans won?

 

No, yesterday was gut check time. Seize control of the division and put yourself in the drivers seat for the season.

And they came out and got smacked. Had better than half a hundred hung on em by a rookie qb with a suspect line and no run game.

Worse, they didn’t even appear to care much, and the noises postgame seem to confirm that.

After this, and last years Christmas debacle, I am left with the conclusion that this team has no guts.

 

I wasnt. But I was not dumb enough to think that our defense is good. Even in that Seattle game we play prevent defense and get burn by teams. I havent seen any signs of this defense improving from last year in neither of these 3 games.

 

That has been the bugaboo throught the Mularkey era. Well two actually.

1. Consistency. They come out looking great one week and like trash the next. Last season we played win one lose one all season. Looks to be the case this year too.

2. Plan. When the plan works well, it’s a thing of beauty (Seattle game). When it doesn’t, there doesn’t seem to be the ability to adapt very well. Seems like a lack of mental toughness or something.

 

We have not done anything on offense before half time THIS YEAR..... Now let that sink in. Yes we won 2 games & put up points at the half. The fact is or offensive scheme limits what the team is capable of doing. 2WR sets is our dominant passing set. We pass in OBVIOUS passing situations mostly. We run horrible trick/gimmick pays that rarely get past the LOS. When we do have a "good game" as the last 2 wins have been called; it's because we have ran well after half time against bad Run defenses.... And those teams gave up costly penalties; that kept us moving chains.

We have not been good this year. We have won games in spite of how badly we played before half time of EVERY GAME.

This is not a scheme that can win against quick scoring offenses. When we play good passing teams we loose. It's that simple. Is been that way since Mularkey arrived. If we play a team capable of scoring threw the air, we cannot keep up. Our old school football has big limitations. Until we have a creative offensive mind calling the offense; we will win against other weak teams that cannot score at will. We will not beat good offensive teams; until we have an OC or HC, capable of utilizing the weapons we heavily invested in on offense.

IDC if Mularkey stays; IF we get an OC capable of using the weapons. AND Mularkey does NOT have say over the offensive scheme.

We HAVE to bring this team into at least the 90's. Run 1st but heavily use play action passing. Until that happens don't get your hopes up. We MAY win this weak division THIS year. However, the other teams ARE advancing their offense & getting better. After this year, I doubt we have any shot w/ Mularkey & HIS offense.

I am beginimg to agree. We do well so long as things follow our script. As soon as it turns, we’re screwed.

 

Sure, I get that. And extra bad points from us being expect to be good this year. Still a long way off the worst.

 

This had to be the 2nd most humiliating loss in franchise history! Only the Bills collapse in the playoffs is worse. This "it's only the 4th game" stuff is the talk of satisfied losers! Only TOTAL ANNIHILATION of the rest of our opponents can correct things. Wins aren't even enough. WE MUST DOMINATE or it's meaningless.
