And both of those guys have made numerous plays for the team.

    Potential.....potential......potential.....

That's not the word for a #5 overall pick. The word we need is PRODUCTION.

I get it- he's a rookie that has been injured. But all we've heard is how he's been kept up to speed mentally during the rehab...

We've seen 1 good play in the first game. And that's really about it. We have also seen a lack of separation, poor route running and inexcusable lack of effort coming back to the ball which is a basic WR concept.

Our O scheme is just God awful. Our players can't seem to execute it with consistency. The scheme can BARELY beat teams with much less talent. It stands zero chance with good teams. (IMO we caught the Seahawks when they were playing bad.)

And btw- that was another AFC loss that makes winning a tie breaker with the Jags unreachable.

    Yep, what a bozo..

Nevermind the Davis #5 pick was a bonus pick garnered from the 2016 draft, which everyone agrees we got the best tackle from.

Just for the record let's look at other highly touted options, Not saying they aren't all stinking it up, but just for discussion...and for the record I was very disappointed in Davis last night

    J ROSS : 3 Games, "0" receptions
    M WILLIAMS : 4 Games 4 receptions
OJ HOWARD : 10 Games 14 receptions (I wanted this guy???)

    C DAVIS : 5 Games 16 receptions

There were many here that said Davis @#5 was a reach. The WR’s picked were a reach also.

And you don't think a horrible offensive scheme had anything to do with Davis not being productive? Did Decker suddenly become a poor man's Tajae Sharpe, are
Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith twice the QB Mariota is, or did he just get duped into playing in a sub-NFL caliber system?

The struggles I'm seeing Davis display are mental. We see how often the coaches throw the WRs under the bus and blame them for lack of execution. We've only had one WR look good in this system, one who is a vet who luckily is still in his prime. Davis is attempting to grasp how many steps he should be taking, where he could be on the field if X coverage is displayed, etc.

Defenses know exactly how to throw off these young receivers and our young QB, and stop our running game. Walker and Matthews break free for 4 to 5 catches per game because they have the experience to know how to read the defenses.

Give the young guy a break. Or at least an opportunity with a real OC

    Couple of things:

I agree our scheme sucks and doesn’t set up young WR’s to develop like true NFL WR’s. They’re forced to block for RB’s and TE’s are almost always the 1st read in this stupid system.

I am not down on Davis as an individual. I didn’t like the lack of effort I saw out of him last night- whether it be mental or not. My position has been he was not the best use of a #5 overall pick. And his lack of production for THIS year is bearing that out to be true. A top 5 pick is expected to contribute as a starter his first year. (Sometimes QB’s sit, but they usually are put in)

I won’t give Davis a break when I see him NOT coming back to the ball. That is a lack of effort- not mental. I think he’ll be adequate in time. But he is failing the eye test. Maybe just in this system- I’d buy that. And I’ll certainly buy our OC is not anything special.

And JRob is not God. And I wish more people would stop slobbing his knob because they NEED to believe we have an awesome GM. So far he’s slightly above average- another premise I have supported for a while.
