800 yards receiving which accounted for 17% of the passing yards brees had that year. In bush's 2 seasons he has not been a homerun hitting player and accounted for just 18% of his team's total yardage the last 2 seasons combined. His average yard per catch mediocre. His average punt return again mediocre. His average yard per carry not even mediocre.

In over 470 touches from scrimmage the home run hitting bush has produced just 9 plays over 20 yards. Not even 2%! The slowest back in the league can do that.

    huh?

How many backs in the league the last 2 years have had 800 yards receiving? How many of them are average and or slow?

No matter what percent of the teams offense it is, 800 yards receiving for a RB is very good! Having other excellent players on the offense doesn't diminish that.

Please answer the above two questions...if you can.

Most recieving yds for Eddie George was 458. Just felt like throwing a stat out.

    And...

BTW, Brian Westbrook...who is a prolific pass catching RB has never equalled 800 yds receiving even though he's led all RB's in receiving yards before. Therefore, 800 yds receiving for a rb is not just very good, it is awesome! Even better for a part time player!

So I guess he was a big help to the Saints!!!

800 yards is a lot for a RB. The problem is, it took Bush over 85 catches to get it. We expected way more from him. He was taken #2 because he would be the most explosive RB in the NFL. Not because he would get a 7.2 ypc for his career. (Fun fact: He has more yards recieving than rushing. Not a good sign for a RB. Another terrible sign is his longest run from scrimage is 22 yards. Even LenDale White has a 28 and a 26 yard run.) The point is, that Bush is fine as a recieving back, but he struggles at running the ball (which, is what he's supposed to do).

I thought it was rare for teams talking about Bush how he can be a great recieving RB. Scouts never talk about the passing game for a RB unless it's one of those type of RB's like Bush, Westbrook, CJ(yet), etc.

Yeah I botched that post. I was trying to say that not many RB's come to the NFL expected to be a recieving back and dual threat like CJ. Which is why he's been compared to Bush and Westbrook.

Ah. Actually, it was historically not a concern but ever since Faulk, teams want a dual threat RB. That and the extra speed on defenses have created a demand for dual threat RBs. 10 years ago, Bush would have likely come out of school at a WR or a point guard. Same for CJ and Westbrook. Now, it's just part of the job description.

Which is why teams are now going with 2 RB's instead of one. With the Vikings it's Peterson/Taylor, Titans White/CJ, Patriots Maroney/Faulk, etc.
