Come on, gloat, you actually had a great argument going, and I was nodding and everything, and then you threw in the Manning comment.

First, I hate Manning. I went to UT for law school, but it was long after he'd been gone and I'd been against him for being a Colt. He gets no UT appeal from me. But if you honestly think that he's stupid, that says a lot about your own ignorance. I've known plenty of athletes who weren't that smart, but an NFL QB who is incredibly successful and arguably does a significant amount of his own play calling has to be smarter than the average person. I'm not saying that he's running his own mensa chapter, but he's clearly not stupid.

It's just frustrating that you'd throw away a perfectly reasonably point/argument with a meaningless put down that shoots your credibility in the face.

Appy St. is a 1-AA team. Period. I don't care how good of a 1-AA team they are, they are still a team that has 30+ less scholarships, less talent than most of the 1-A schools. No matter how Gloat trys to spin it, it is an embarrassing loss. He says teams like UT wouldn't even schedule them. He's right. UT wouldn't schedule a 1-AA team because it is meaningless. The win doesn't do them any good. The only thing that can come out of it is negative.

Almost all major programs schedule either a 1-aa team or a really bad div 1 team at the beginning of the year. These games are meant to work on things and get the confidence rolling early in the year. UT has a 2-10 uab team on their schedule and a 5-7 wyoming team. There is no difference between scheduling a strong 1-aa team and a terrible div. 1 team.

Wouldn't the fact that one team is in division 1, and the other is in division 1-aa, be a difference?

do you really not understand or are you joking? The game still counts as a win and its a game which the powerhouse is going to blow them out 99% of the time. There are no programs who set up their whole non-conference schedule with no games that are guaranteed wins.

Manning is supposedly the smartest QB in the league. I'm not saying he ISN'T smart. He just seems very, very dumb. The "durrr which way did he go george? Which way did he go?" way he talks is the main thing that gives me that impression, I suppose.

He plays the good old boy routine well, yes. But that's expected of him. No, I don't think that he's different in private, but it would be very difficult for him to be anything other than what he is. I'd bet you'd be surprised by the results of his IQ test.

This is where you are wrong. There is a difference. A win against a 1-aa team doesn't count towards your bowl eligiblity. You need to have 6 wins against 1-A team.

Unless somethings changed I thought it's always been that one win against a 1-aa opponent counts. Am I wrong on this?

I could be wrong as well, but not that long ago I remember Vandy playing and beating 1-AA team but they had to beat 6 1-A teams to go to a bowl and end up with a 7 win season. Of course they didn't, but I know at one time wins over 1-AA did not count towards bowl eligibility. Personally, I just don't think it is work it UNLESS it is for some kind of regional flavor, say the big state university playing a state 1-AA team, like Georgia vs. Georgia Southern.
