but I really don't really give a flying ****. They gave me a killer severance package. Nearly 11K :greedy: they came off of just so they wouldn't have to overpay me for the next God only knows how many years... I would have wasted my whole life there I'm quite certain. They may think their organization is better off for it but I'm convinced that I am the one who came out on the better end of this one.

I realize that wherever I go to work with this skill set I possess, given that if it's in this market, that being Chattanooga, TN, I am not going to be able to land the same wage I was making. I was doing pretty well I thought. Back in the summer of 1997 they hired me in at $6.25 an hour. I was nineteen years old, young, dumb and full of cum... now I'm thirty and I'm married and my kid just went to Kindergarten for the first time just last week.. I got a raise last month... a ****ing raise! :whoop:

Ohh... I was so proud. I felt like I had made it... I was finally a twenty dollar an hour man. I felt like I could really thump my chest over that. I felt as if I was being given the recognition that I deserved after all my hard work, loyalty and dedication to JAKE MARSHALL, LLC. I really was beside myself. In turn I just worked harder to celebrate in a way. I should have known it was too good to last. I should have known that a shop mechanic who is not on any promotion track would be systematically eliminated and subsequently dropped from the payroll.

Oh yes my dear friends.. the bottom fell out and with it I dragged out over ten thousand dollars nearly eleven in fact. Of that I cleared almost $6,300... half of which I paid off the remainder of my car note at the credit union... So that 2003 Ford Escape sitting in my driveway is officially the property of one Mr. & Mrs. SEC 330 BIPOLAR... with the rest of the money... I banked it. I figure it will be handy for groceries, the light bill... gas money to go to Titans games... **** like that...

You might be asking yourselves... "Jay, what did you do? Surely you must have brought this upon yourself." It really is just this simple... They went and reacquired people that they had fired or had leave them in the past... Kind of like Jevon Kearse or JMac... Other mechanics came back and worked cheaper and now as the busy season is coming to a close I just got the short end of the stick. Some of it was politics, some of it was about productivity per dollar an hour... I'll be honest... they have a guy that was there on my first day who was fired for STEALING TIME on his time card years ago... they have him earning about 5 bucks less an hour than what I was bringing in... and I'll be honest... he is every bit as a good worker as I am. Not as motivated... not as reliable... but good... good enough anyways...

for the record he is a friend of mine and he has nothing to do with any of this. I just have to respect that they decided that they wanted to go another direction... so I guess I'm just going to have to go my way...

Hard to find a good auto mechanic. You'll land on your feet somewhere.

well, actually, I am a sheet metal mechanic. I work up metal into hvac duct and fittings. I used to do it here. I know I'll find work. It's just a matter of time. I put in three applications today so maybe something will pan out. I also filed for unemployment so between the severance and the unemployment check that should come after a couple of weeks I'll be fine that way. My wife does ok and our financial house isn't collapsing... so life is like a box of chocolates... :brow: besides... In times like this faith guides me. When I can not see I just trust that the Lord has something in store for me so I'll just take it one day at a time. That's all I can do. In the mean time I'll work at all those things I've been meaning to do but just for whatever reason couldn't find the time.

Oh, ok. At least you don't have a subprime loan. Those are real troubles.

That sucks Jay, but really, better now than ten years from now. Is there any type of business in your line that you could realistically open yourself? In Canada you can get some pretty sweet small business loans to get yourself started. The best thing I ever did was walk away from a nice, union job at a local Chrysler parts plant. I was 32 at the time with absolutely no prospects.... things turned out differently than I ever would have imagined, but they turned out. :)

have you seen this? This is my wife's business. So, in a way I already am a silent partner in an entrepreneurship. I built (with help) the AMD Athlon based machine she does her photo work on. I also enable her to do a lot in the way of general support. But she's the one I'm married to. I don't want to dedicate myself to being a small businessman. I have friends who do that. It's not for me. Too much commitment. I don't love money that much. I'd rather just go earn a wage and save my money, live off her day job and photo business, take care of my son and help keep our household together. I'd like to be able to work and save. Mrs. Bipolar has knack for making dough. She's a bigshot in her company. http://tshydinc.com/

She designed that website for Tri-State Hydraulics, Inc. She's really talented. She sells the crap out of hydraulic equipment and quotes repairs... troubleshoots, the whole bit. She's a class act. A bubble butt sure can sell a lot of hydraulics. :brow:
