Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky For all they Colts endured this season and for all their struggles, Sunday's win over Pittsburgh put Indianapolis right in the thick of the AFC playoff mix.

The Colts likely have the worst football of their season behind them, and at 5-4 they stand the same as Buffalo, Miami and Denver and worse off than only five teams in the conference.

The defense rose to the occasion, not allowing Ben Roethlisberger a touchdown pass while picking him off three times, including on the final play of the game, when Melvin Bullitt slid between a tipped Hail Mary throw and Steelers receiver Dallas Baker, who thought the ball might slip through to him.

While Indianapolis's run game wasn't very productive against the league's third-ranked rush defense, it fared better than Pittsburgh's. The Steelers ran 26 times for just 55 yards, assuring that the game ultimately fell on Big Ben's shoulders. It proved more than he could handle on this day.

Thats the first thing I thought of, but is also a double edged sword.....the Colts is one team I dont wanna see get their act together and get hot riding into the playoffs. We learned one thing from the Giants last year, you dont have to be the division winner to win a Superbowl.

I think I've switched to the whole AFC champion thing now, and if the Colts be in, so be it. They are dangerous. But they are also a step off. Fisher may kneel down in week 17 to let them into the playoffs anyway. Homefield is even more important, so let's play for it. No matter who gets into the playoffs, they will have something going for them, so it doesn't matter to me anymore. I fully expect the Colts to get it. Fisher tends to be very good against high scoring teams. We seem to struggle more against good defensive teams as a trend.

    Colts won't make the playoffs.

They'll win games against the Pats and Steelers but lose to the Texans and Browns.
