    Let the draft games begin!

I'm set on taking a CB in the 1st, but then again, it's a fairly deep CB pool this year. So, who knows.

There are 5-6 DEs that are major talents that will be coming out this year and if one of them happens to slide to us, then I can definitely see us taking that route. Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown, Michael Johnson, Greg Hardy, and George Selvie are the guys that are almost pre-combine locks to go in the first. One of them may be sitting there when we pick.

I realize a lot depends on Albert and other things in free agency, but it's always fun to speculate.

Who do YOU think we take?

Without know who will be drafted when at this point what I like to do is look at the top 100 players and look at players 25-35 and assume almost all those players could be there and pick from there, so that's what I'm doing for the 30th, 62nd and 94th pick with this list. And yea it doesn't include juniors but oh well.

1st round: Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin. I mean it's not who I REALLY want but he reminds me a lot of Kellen Winslow. I like him a lot and he doesn't fill our biggest need but if he develops into a Winslow like player who would say no to that? Scaife is great, Crumpler is very ehh, but Beckum seems like a nice medium.

2nd round: DeAngelo Smith, CB, Cincinnati. Not the best of speed but he's a ball hawk. He might give up a few pass plays but he will also pick off some passes. He might make a better safety but I've seen enough of him to think he's worth a shot. Best case is another Nick Harper worst case maybe Antrell Rolle.

3rd round: Marko Mitchell, WR, Nevada. Yea I know another mid round receiver but hey why not? He's a project but one with a lot of upside. His numbers at Nevada are very good so production is there. His route running isn't great but it's a fixable problem and his blocking isn't great but he separates and can go up and get a ball in traffic.

Josh Freeman is another guy to keep an eye on. People say he could be another JaMarcus Russell which intrigues me. Now before you slam on Russell keep in mind I watch a lot of Raider games and he's the victim of one of the worst offensive lines and receiving cores in all of football. In reality he isn't that bad and I think will be a pretty good player in this league. Maybe not Culpepper in his prime but pretty close.

Personally, I think Beckum would be a terrible pick in the first round. Especially since he's coming off a broken leg..I think? He seems like a WR/TE tweener to me. Too small to play TE and too big to play WR. He's a great athlete though, and I wouldn't mind having him. Just not in the first round.

    My take...

1st Round: Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky. I'm not sure where Lindley is slotted to go by the "experts", but if you've seen him play you will know that he's probably the best cover corner in the draft and that's saying quite a bit. He's nothing special in terms of size and speed, but he can flat-out shut down a WR. Pick him here, let him learn & play nickel for a year, then take over for Harper in 2010. Alternate: Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest.

2nd Round: Percy Harvin, WR/?, Florida. I'm not a fan of Harvin at all, but we're desperate for another playmaker. He's easily the best athlete in the draft and would be VERY hard to pass up here. Call me crazy, but I think he drops into the 2nd (probably not as far as us) because he has no true position, tons of injury concerns, and a few character concerns. He's this year's version of Devin Hester -- best athlete, but takes a plunge because of his position & other questions. Alternate: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina.

3rd Round: Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss. I think he will go higher, but for now I'll put him here. If we re-sign Al then I highly doubt we take a DT, but if we don't, then we'll definitely be in the market for one. From what I've seen of Jerry, he's pretty good. Sort of a short & stocky DT like Tony Brown. Alternate: MLB/OLB...Don't know who yet.

Well yea I mean it depends. If he shows in the combine that he's at 100% then I'm not too worried about his injury. And like I said he could be another Kellen Winslow.

With Harvin, to me, he's just Chris Johnson with an injury problem. I mean sure it would be cool to have two speedsters at RB and line them at receiver and then White with the power runs but I'd rather get a pure wide receiver not a RB who can line up at receiver. Besides Harvin wont be around for the 2nd round and I wouldn't use our first round pick on him.

It's good knowing that a bad draft won't likely ruin our season next year. Haven't known that in a while.

Depending on how free agency pans out (hopefully getting Housh or someone like him) we could just be drafting future starters like the Colts do every year.
