    Anyone else watch this?
While I was rooting for Matt Hughes to win the fight, I don't think he deserved a unanimous decision. Serra did manage to smack him around quite a bit, including throwing Hughes on his back.

Machida made fairly quick work of Evans, even though Evans took a few direct 'button' hits before he finally buckled. I predict that Machida will defend that belt once maybe twice before fighters figure out how to defend his style.
I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Anderson Silva.

    "Let the Machida era begin!"

I actually have to disagree with you, I think Machida will last awhile as champion.

I do agree that I thought the Hughes/Sera fight could've went Sera's way. I was surprised the decision was unanimous.

Wow. Apparently Alex and I are the only MMA fans on here. I would have expected more comments about a UFC fight from football fans than this.

He won't last any longer than Liddell did. Two reasons he lasted as long as he did, one: he had excellent takedown defense, two he had 'one-punch' knockout power. Machida does not (either that or Evans has an iron chin). Liddell's opponents knew what they needed to do to beat him, they could just never survive his barrage of fists.
I think Forrest Griffin would have fared better against Machida.
Just like Vince Young, once his opponents figure him out, he'll go down just like the rest of them.

I think Machida is going to be very difficult for opposing fighters to figure out. It's because of his range with his leg kicks. Clearly he has some power because he rocked Evans several times.

Evans fought too far off Machida, because he was scared of his range. He should've closed the gap, but then of course he's at risk of a huge kick. But he lost the fight so clearly he shoulda tried something different.

Machida and Silva are in the same camp. You'll probably never see them fight, even though it would be a good one.

It's not that long ago the Hughes looked invincible. No way he had a unanimous win over Serra.

Machida has a stance that isn't easy to take down. He's square on to people without have a traditional lead leg that wrestlers can use to take him down.

I think he will be figured out sooner than Silva because he just presents a different style for fighters to deal with.He can and will be figured out.Anderson Silva is just freakishly talented to the point that he gets bored fighting guys who are scared to fight him.

Oh I agree with you 1000% there. But that's the same reason I feel the way I do. Remember Evans' last fight against Forrest Griffin? Griffin has some nasty leg kicks as well and he rocked Evans a few times with them as well. However, Evans wasn't afraid to get in close to Griffin, which IMO got him the opportunity to get in there and knock Griffin out.

I agree. But as I mentioned, it's kinda like the Griffin bout. For some reason Evans didn't/couldn't close in on Machida. It also seems like Machida has some nasty kick fake to punch barrage combo....meaning he will throw a leg kick(sometimes follow through and sometimes fake), then go right into a punch combo. That's deadly for someone who anticipates Machida's kicks, then tries to bypass it and get in close...only to run into his punches.
Someone who is just as good with leg kicks and combining them with punches will take Machida down....OR someone who is damn good on the ground and can get him down there and keep him down there.

The ONLY person I believe capable of defeating Lyota Machida is Cung Le. He's not in the UFC though :irked:. He's the only person with just as good/better kicks then Lyota, and his striking is just as unorthodox.

On the fight, I think most people saw that happening unfortunately, because of their styles. I was sitting with my brother and he asked me before the fight, "Who do you REALLY think is going to win?" I played the fight over and over and I couldn't see him winning it. Sucks, because I love Rashad :hmm:

Lyota makes people look like they are amateurs. Just about every fight...

On a side note, anyone got UFC Undisupted on ps3? my PSN-ID is Jllogic

Yeah. I dunno about that. While I do agree aoub Le's unorthodox style, he fights in K1. I've seen him do that 'scissor kick' takedown umpteen times in K1. However, in MMA, the ref isn't going to stand them back up after a takedown and a good ground fighter would get out of that scissor kick and whoop Le's a s s on the ground, so at the least Le would have to work on his takedown defense and groundfighting skills.

The only thing that separates him from other fighters right now, is his elusiveness and his takedown defense. Look at Liddel's takedown defense and how long he lasted as a champ.
