something similar happened to a buddy of mine. his little brother's crib was near a window and he ended up hanging himself from the pull chord.

sometimes these things happen, no matter how avoidable they are, you just don't think about all the outcomes as an adult because you know better and think from an adult perspective.

You're allowed. The problem I have with this situation is the fact that he's likely out of town all the time, his wife probably isn't a very good mother, and it could have avoided. Gross assumptions? Possibly... I just think it's unacceptable to let a child wander for that long. Don't you think it clicks in your head after maybe a minute tops... "Hey, where's my daughter?! She didn't do that. She decided to have her 7 year old son to go search instead of doing it herself. Taking into consideration the time it took to wander out of the room, walk to another room, and fool with the treadmill, I'd say that took at least 4 minutes to all go down... Avoidable, if you ask me.

This is just how I feel, personally. I have two half sisters (5 and 3 years old), and I just don't see how something like this could happen if the mother was doing her job.

I'm still outraged by it. Children passing away is a sensitive subject for me. Like I've said, I'm 19... I have no experience in parenting, and I don't plan on it until after college. But, I have babysat my little sisters, and the number one rule (for me, if not everyone) is never let them out of your sight. It may happen, but you don't send a 7 year old to find them. In the mother's defense, she obviously couldn't have predicted that such a freaky, tragic accident would happen. She wouldn't have just assumed... "oh my daughter's out of sight; she's in danger!" I still don't see how you can lose a child long enough for her to be able to get into that mess.

it's freak accident , you know how many kids play on treadmills?

my daughter is 3 years old and she plays on our treadmill all the time while we are in the other room. we know what she is doing but a 3-4 year old doesnt need their hand held 24/7. as long as the treadmill was unplugged then no one is at fault. it's a rare freak accident. it's a sad painful death the little girl went through, But she is in a better place now. When a close one dies you just have to remember they no longer feel anything. Only the living feels the pain and heartbreak, you just have to stay strong for yourself and eventually move on. I dont like Tyson but I feel sorry for him right now.

RSB- Wait 'til you have kids. It's impossible to keep an eye on them all the time. They'll do things and you'll wonder how they did them and how you didn't see them.

This is really all you need to say. You're making accusations based on no experience or insight. Babysitting does not equal parenting. I'm not trying to be hard on you, but you really have no idea about what you are ranting about. I get so tired of people without kids trying to give parenting advice. This was a horrible accident. I feel for Mike Tyson, his son, and especially his wife. She is going to have to live with heart-wrenching "what ifs" for the rest of her life.

No, really... I don't mind it, at all. Believe me, I know babysitting doesn't equal parenting. At my age, there's no way in hell I could handle my two sisters every single day. They're a handfull. It wasn't a great example on my part... just a touchy subject for me... and for everyone.

4 year olds are a lot more independent than you think too. My 3 year old girl acts so sophisticated, that I allow her a lot of freedom. 95% of the time, she's just being her...nothing bad. But sometimes she sits right by the bed as I'm laying down watching the CL Finals and gets in to my paints that were under the bed, and smears these paints all over her, the floor, and the casing. All my paints gone.

Like a ninja, too. It's amazing.
