I have been doing alot of research on this topic, and it is seeming more and more like a smart thing to do. I am not an animal, cow, ect lover. More of a health nut.

If you are a vegan or similar, why?

I never thought I would even consider this, but a book I read recently, really has me doing a lot of thinking.

I've been thinking the same. Maybe just part vegetarian. Eat chicken and fish, but no pork or beef.
It seems like a hard transition though.

Is being part vegetarian kinda like being partly pregnant?

Last time I checked, either you are or you aren't.

And humans are omnivores, not herbivores (vegetarians).

And really, you're not really getting any huge health benefit from being a vegetarian vice eating a serving of meat every now and then (I said every now and then, not every meal mind you); prove me wrong.

You wont' find a better natural source of protien than in meat (don't even think about bringing up soybeans either).

And whoever classified what is a vegetarian and what is a vegan needs to be punched in the mouth. Fish and chicken are meat, so if you eat either, you're not a #$%^#$% vegetarian.

Neither a vegitarian or vegan eats meat. Vegan also doesn't eat animal by products like eggs or dairy.

My daughter is veg. and you have to work harder to make sure you get all the nutrition you need. About 2 months ago or so, I decided to eat better. No more junk and fast food and I virtually eliminated all my red meat. So far I am down 50 pounds (I'm a big guy so came off easier). I was surprised how easy it was to eliminate red meat and how little I really miss it.

Its not so much a matter of weight as it is health. True, meat should be considered a good thing for good protein. HOWEVER, in our society, the meat we eat is not so healthy. The cows, pigs, chickens are full of hormoes and other things that have been injected into them so increase their growth.

I can show you studies from where cultures where diets such as rice, beans, corn, fruit vegetables, and other natural foods were the predominate foods and then show you where they Westernized their diets. Then I will show you where the tumor, cancer, and illness rates increased by 100%. Is this a coincidence? A good example of this is Japan.

    We are natural omnivores huh?

And the point of this thread was not to debate whether or not you think being a vegetarian or vegan is a good thing or bad thing. I am not trying to start a debate here. I want some info from people who are or used to live this lifestyle. So TBC, if your going to get all excited, step off my thread. Cool?

My wife is considering doing this too. We stay away from beef not as much as possible, and eat pork sparingly. Turkey and chicken are our main meats now.

Look at some of the top endurance athletes in the world. They live longer, stay active longer, and tons of them are vegetarians. I hate to apply links, but if I need to I will.

Maybe less meat makes you less uptight like this guy...

  10. I'm no vegetarian, but I have cut back on how much meat I'm eating. You can fairly easily replace your protean intake with things like nuts or beans with rice.

I'd suggest checking out a vegetarian cookbook that talks about what foods provide what nutrients.
