Again- nothing wrong with adults being entertained with children's movies or anything. I just think when they occupy more than 2 hours of your life, then you probably need something better to do with your time. Or at least spend it reading something memorable that relates to your life.

What makes something a children's book? Well...simple- If it's targeted solely towards kids, the material is on an elementary reading level, and the situations are something that only relate to that age group, then it's a kid's book to me.
You've gotta be a pretty simple individual to keep entertained by a Harry Potter book for longer than 2 hours.

Oh if we all could be as well rounded as gloat.

I've read all the Harry Potter books and seen all the movies. I take them for what they are. Entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. I started reading them for one reason. My daughter. She was around 10 years old and we both read the first one as kind of a "fun" thing to do. Kind of a father/daughter thing. Now she is 21 years old, very intelligent and doing well at one of the top liberal art colleges in the south and she and I are going this weekend to see the next movie and I can't wait.

Are they great books or movies? Of course not. Are they fun to us? Sure. Not every book or movie has to be thought provoking or memorable. Sometimes it's nice just to be entertained.

When it's all said and done, Snape is the most tragic character so I would go him.

But you don't know the plot, you didn't read the books, right? They actually do progress, especially in complexity. There's a huge jump from the first book to the third book in terms of plot, and from there it moves on in terms of subject matter. The good people aren't 100% good, and the bad people aren't 100% bad (though a significant number of them are)

Again, no one is arguing that it's amazing literature, I'm amazed that you're arrogant enough to think that it's impossible for this book to have any admirable qualities for an adult.

Also, reading these 500 page books doesn't actually take that long. You know, because they're written for kids. It's basically one-fish, two-fish all over again.

I guess that's where I think you don't get it, they aren't written for kids, they're written for teenagers/young adults. I'd say that the ideal ages to read them would be jr high and the first few years of high school. I don't know about you, but I was capable of reading at a pretty high level at that point.

I understand why you wouldn't like them, they're optimistic and positive instead of cynical and jaded. Amazing, that seems childish to you! Just because you only felt that way about things when you were a child doesn't mean that other people aren't capable of that kind of thought at a higher level.

And you are right, you didn't say that they deserved to die. You just said that they wouldn't be a big loss. That's definitely a whole different comment, and was worthwhile and classy.

^That's how I picture everyone that actually argued that this isn't a kid's book.

    But older.

Guy's, I'm sorry. Truth is, I was a huge Peter Pan fan... so I hate Harry Potter for being the new version. It's a rivalry thing.
