Finally football is back! I last left off giving you guys a bit of my opinion on who might be good picks when looking for your fantasy QB’s. Now it’s time for the studs of the fantasy world. The preseason is up and we have gotten a sample of what’s to come in ‘09. So once again to help fellow Titans fans I thought I would share a little info I put together for the running backs.

Adrian Peterson is by far the consensus No. 1 RB heading into the 2009 season. The man makes his case for being No.1 by bashing his opponents into the ground play after play, and being the perfect specimen of a football player behind a powerful O-line. In 2008 we saw Adrian Peterson a.k.a “All Day” get a serious increase in workload from his rookie season. With 2008 being a better year for him than 2007, his fans can only expect his production to increase in 2009 being without a solid QB on the team. How could he not be the best when his nickname is “All Day”, sure beats “Save the Last Dance” LOL. He led the league with three 150-yard performances vs. good defenses. His counter part Chester Taylor is a reliable backup but doesn’t post any real threat to rob his carries. With well over 300 touches expect Peterson to have another stellar year. Also with a bye in week 9, look for Mr. Peterson to stay fresh throughout the regular season.

The No. 2 back on my list goes out to none other than L.T.’s protégée Michael Turner. In 2008 Turner was only shown up by my No. 1 guy Adrian Peterson in rushing yards. In 2009 look for Turner to turn it up as Atlanta can lean on him knowing what he can do. Matt Ryan’s progression is right on tract which will help open up the running room. New teammate Tony Gonzales will also help better Turners rushing totals as he too makes defenders go nuts. The only downfall which I don’t believe will be one is Atlanta’s schedule.

Coming in third on this list is LaDainian Tomlinson. In 2008 he was hampered by injuries, and still managed to extend his 1,000 yard seasons to eight straight. Playing Kansas City a couple of times should be all one needs to take L.T. in rounds 1 or 2. Helping justify him being 3 on this list is the TD average of 17 per season.

To wrap things up and keep this relatively short my forth back to grab in fantasy football is the infamous Chris Johnson. Speed and excitement alone should make people jump to snag themselves a 1,500 yard back. Give this guy an inch and he’ll take it a mile. We all know LenDale will get the goal-line carries, but Johnson can break one lose from anywhere. Having the best offensive line in football does its part also as Johnson is putting another Pro Bowl resume together.

Once again I seem to have forgotten somebody that NFL.com believes is better than my top 3 or did I? But here’s the deal; they put Matt Forte second and Maurice Jones-Drew third. My only reasoning behind NFL.com putting him there is because he gets to play the Lions twice, and Maurice Jones-Drew won’t exceed Chris Johnson as the top back in the AFC South with all the issues the Jaguars have. So if you want to win games in fantasy football this year grab one of my 4 backs early to ensure you rack up a lot of points.

You forgot Slaton. The Homers won't like this, but for fantasy purposes I rank him slightly higher than CJ primarily because he catches a lot of balls.

Houston has better offensive weapons with Johnson, Daniels and Shaub. They both had similar rushing numbers last year, but Slaton caught almost twice the passes as CJ. CJ is splitting carries with Lendale, Slaton is backed up by Chris Brown. I like Slaton's odds of scoring more points in fantasy than CJ.

You forgot DeAngelo Williams and Steven Jackson. I'd drop LT to #6 or 7 this year below all of the above.

Derrick Ward is my sleeper pick for 09.

MJD gets all the carries to himself this year. He'll blow up. I might even rank him as my #1.

"All day" should be changed to "All Autumn", because he struggles down the stretch. And in FF, you need your best players to give you huge games at the end of the season. Plus, he is injury prone. I've got him at #3.

Deangelo Williams should be a top #10 back, though he won't match last season's TD numbers.

LT will be better than last season, but he's just about done. No way he's #2.

    Here's my top 10:

    1. MJD
    2. Turner
    3. Peterson
    4. Forte
    5. LT
    6. D. Williams
    7. S. Jackson
    8. Portis
    9. CJ
    10. Slaton

You do mention some good points, but I don't believe that DeAngelo Williams plays at last years level ever again. Steven Jackson could be in for a big year, but I tried keeping my list short. And yes, Ward is a good sleeper pick.

    My top 10

    1. AP - Until someone with his abilities steps up he will stay 1(much like LT in Prime)
    2. Turner - Came out of no-where last year and is a strong number 1 RB.
    3. DeAngelo Williams - Great back, but will he split carries?
    4. Forte - Strong Strong runner, but will they throw more this year?
    5. Slaton - Went from being undrafted last year to big time
    6. CJ - Not higher because he will lose goal line carries
    7. MJD - Will not see more than 17 carries a game. Great back though. Del Rio loves Greg Jones who will see carries.
    8. Stephen Jackson - Another strong runner, but how is his body holding up. He has taken a pounding.
    9. LT - Still a great back, but I do not think he can stay healthy all season at 30. If he goes down, Sproles could put up major numbers
    10. Thomas Jones - This was a toss up between Marion Barber, Portis, or TJ.

Interesting that you believe DeAngelo Williams is up there at 3 considering he had a dream season for himself last year. He will absolutely split carries, and lose the key touches to Stewart when they matter most. No doubt the guy has skills, but I wouldn't have that guy anywhere near 3. I think nfl.com had him at 5 so maybe I missed something somewhere. Can't lie and say he doesn't make the most of his touches with over 5 yards a carry for his career.

Sorry to pick apart your thoughts but work is slow today LOL.

And the others like Forte at 4, and Slaton 5. Well as for Forte; Detroit now has a good defensive mindset and wont be the worst defense in football again, which is what I think is the belief that this guy will have big numbers.

MJD 17 carries?!? No way buddy, more like 23-25 without Taylor. Greg Jones isn't stealing his touches. Not if the Jaguars are trying to win. I don't even recall Greg Jones running once last year. I'm sure he did but its rare.

I'd be willing to wager that MJD averages less than 20 carries a game. :)
