First off, I wanna say I love Fisher so I'm not meaning for this to be a Fisher bashing thread. I've always stuck by him and defended him against the critics that said he'd never win the big one, but he really has me scratching my head lately and sadly I'm starting to think the critics may be right. Right now, he seems too set in his ways to think outside the box and too proud to admit his master plan isn't panning out. I think his stubbornness could be hurting the team at this point.
Unless we go on a serious run, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is his last season. And as much as I respect the man and appreciate what he's done here I think a fresh perspective from the head coaching position might do wonders for this franchise.
What are your thoughts on Fisher? If we continue down the path we are on now throughout the season would you want to see him back next year or would it be time for a fresh start?

My sentiments exactly. But I'd much rather Bud 'persuade' Fisher to shift his paradigms a bit rather than giving him his walking papers.
I respect Fisher for stickin to his guns, but he also need so learn how to make adjustments when needed.

I personally feel Fisher is in the top 10 of NFL coaches. I believe he has a number of strengths and a few weaknesses which have been pretty much beaten to death here over the years. He's not elite by any stretch, IMO.

When a team doesn't play well fundamentally, (such as not tackling well, making the catch, communication issues, etc.) then I feel it is fair to look at coaching because these are often times concentration issues. So I believe it's fair to lay some of the blame for an 0-3 start at the feet of Fisher.

Here is where Fisher either proves he's still a quality coach or can be considered second-tier. Quality coaches have fundamentally-strong teams. Quality coaches adjust when needed but don't make changes for change sake. Quality coaches don't panic.

This season may be one of those defining moments in Fisher's career. In '03, he faced a similar situation and the team responded. We'll get to see if he can do it again.

In some ways our struggles so far have highlighted how good he is (or can be, rather) as a coach. We've come to simply expect the Titans to always field a team with good fundamentals, who look like they've been well prepared for everything they face, and that if they simply execute the game plan they can beat any team in the league.

Those 3 things can't be said of many teams, and in Tennessee they are sorely lacking this year.

I actually get the sense he's trying to adapt his team - bringing in receivers, going faster but lighter on defense... and that he's just not sure how to keep the core of what the Titans have always been - pounding run game, attacking defense - while making the adjustments needed to be a bit more explosive on offense when we need it, and to not get overmatched by high-powered offenses. His critics have always complained that he's not adapting, but now I think he is adapting and he's not doing it well. This team has lost it's identity, and it's up to Fisher to find it again.

Here's the way I see it if there's a worst case scenario and that would be a 4 or 5 win season. A few years ago Brian Billick (also a good coach with 1 more ring than Fisher) had the top team in the AFC but lost in the first round in the playoffs (kinda like us) and followed it up with a bad season despite still having talent (again this could be us) and what happened? If that happens even though Fisher is a good coach maybe a big change would be needed. Maybe join the trend that Baltimore, Denver, and the Jets have and go with a brand new guy who's the total opposite of what you just had.

Hope it doesn't come to that but when your 0-3 you can't help but think about worse case stuff.

Same guys + new weapons on offense. Same guys minus one on Defense. You go from 13-3 to 0-3 out the gate. Seems like coaching problems to me. There is no excuse for the defense's play when its 10/11 starters returning.

I'm just tired of his emotionless demeanor all the time. Does he even care anymore? I'm referring to post-game issues, he should be a little more expressive than the same usual BS we get every year.

There probably isn't much question Fisher should shoulder some blame for the 0-3 start. But there is no other coach in (or out of) football I'd rather see on the Titans sideline right now.

    It's quite simple.

People have dogged Fisher for Fisherball on offense. Pound the rock, pound the rock and throw it to Wycheck on 3rd and 3 for a first down. Move the chains, run the clock, limit turnovers and win it in the end.

We have always had a tough defense which used to be a simpler version of what the Jets now run...the 46 D. We used to attack, attack, attack with man coverage but they re-adjusted the defense to copy Tampa Bay Cover 2 in their hey-day.

We now have an exceptional running game because we drafted a smaller, explosive back instead of a pounding back like EG (or White). We have invested in WR's who not only can catch, but have speed and or size and can make some explosive plays down the field.

Our defense is completely different and was built around Big AL up the middle preventing a QB from stepping up and speedy DE's. Pressure with the front four and a good zone behind it is the perfect combo for creating turnovers and preventing big plays. Downside was getting the D to stop the run in Tampa. We have done that quite well!

How anyone can suggest Fisher hasn't adjusted to the times or improved offensively or defensively hasn't been playing attention.

Fisher's problem is that he's too loyal to people who are loyal to him. He thinks we'll just fix the mistakes and keep going. To some extent he's right...most of our coordinators who have been terrible have improved over seasons to become avg or perhaps better. But I wouldn't wait for 3 years to have a coordinator doing his job effectively. We had a bad offensive coordinator whom he wouldn't fire during our SB run. Thankfully, that guy left the team. Schwartz was a bad defensive coordinator for much of his tenure...but we didn't fire him. Our special teams coach Lowry was tried at WR coach and was so bad our WR's across the board got worse. Instead of firing him, he went back to screwing up our special teams. Fisher won't fire him even if an excellent special teams coordinator became available. This is his only real flaw besides not matching up our best CB on the other team's best WR and letting the offense dictate matchups. I also have a big problem with their drafting philosophy at times, but I'm not sure who gets more or less of the blame for that.

His offensive and defensive philosophy is more than sound. He had adjusted his philosophies and he has re-built this team yet again. On paper, how they chose to replace Haynesworth makes sense but I don't think they thought this would have as much affect to our pass rush and the trickle down effect on our secondary. How they (secondary) have been coached for years (attack the first break) suddenly is a problem since our pass rush is not there in 3-3.5 seconds and teams have killed us with double moves and extended QB time in the pocket. The lack of confidence after giving up big plays has led to mental errors which have only compounded the problem.

Without a top notch returner, our special teams have killed us - from poor field position, to poor coverage, to turnovers, to a blocked kick, ect. Fisher, Lowry and MR need to take blame for that as well as Mouton for putting the ball on the ground. Since Fisher's not gonna fire Lowry now or even after the season, what can they do? They need to go get a returner today. We have players to trade and I think we need to make a move (or two)....free agent, trade, whatever.

Fisher's calm demeanor is his coaching face. While the Jets were beating the Pats, did Belicheck freak out on the sideline? Nope...calm demeanor. When things are not going your way, if the coach panics...the players panic. A calm coach gives players the sense that we're never out of it. Believe it or not, it gives players confidence. I can guarantee you he's not calm in the locker room at halftime nor in the locker room. Rodney Harrison made a similar comment about Belicheck after they lost to the Jets. He'll be calm to the media and in public...when they hit the film room and see all these mistakes, it will be a lot of F-bombs!

    When we're winning, Fisher's demeanor is lauded. When we're losing...he doesn't care?

Fisher is a top 10 coach but so what. Even Hall of Fame coaches have down seasons and have flaws. We...as in the coaching staff and players need to find a way to win. We have found a lot of ways to lose and every unit has had a hand in it (though our defense and special teams have sometimes had 2 hands in).

We either start winning or Vince Young will get a lot of games to prove whether he is or is not our franchise QB of the future. We could see drastic changes next year if things don't improve in a hurry!!!

    Gut
