I am a Gruden fan, what do you think about him? I care about winning a superbowl so I think the coach needs to be capable of being a champion. Thats half the problems I have with fisher is that I think he is not going to win a SB. Gruden is a proven SB winner, and is young enough to stay in town and establish roots.

    Riverman,

I see the following players as longterm future Titans without question: Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, Roos, D.Stewart, Finnegan, Griffin, Bironas.

That's only 7 players, but those are the young core that needs to stick around.

Hopefully we'll find out about Vince once and for all this season so an informed decision will be made. If he has some success and looks like he will remain a Titan for a while, we need an offensive strategy that will take advantage of his mobility and not try to force him into a statue pocket passer.

A coaching change needs to be made, imo. The real question to me, do we get a head coach that is O or D minded? It does seem that recent rules changes have favored high scoring offenses, so at this point I would go that route- and I'm not sure Vince fits in if thats the case.

After so much has been invested in the TE position, franchising Scaife, signing Crumpler last offseason, investing a 3rd round pick in Stevens, and trading next year's 2nd round pick for Cook... we haven't really seen much. Certainly doesn't appear we have the next Wycheck on the roster. Hopefully Cook gets healthy and shows us some amazing, he would be a must keep young core guy if so, but for now the future of the position is a big ? to me.

Coaching change and team direction are probably the most important factors that will dictate the future success. Do we go Pats style and try to win by outscoring opponents, or do we go Ravens style and win with defense and run game?

I'm all for Gruden too. But he would have to curb his impulses just a little bit. While I'm all for benching a QB if he plays bad for long enough, I'm not interested in seeing one swapped out between plays (like Gruden has done before); and we know that Chucky is very, very abrasive towards his QBs when they eff up.
Chucky would have put Vince in at halftime on Sunday, and while I'm all for Vince coming in at this point, I wouldn't have wanted to see him come in after halftime during a game.

Why does it ALWAYS have to be one or the other????? :irked:
    Why can't we have BOTH?
Why can't we run a high-tempo West coast offense and a swarming 3-4 defense?

Too expensive to have the elite players at the positions.

Well I guess maybe not depending on the salary cap future, but we'll be worse off, unfortunately, if the cap vanishes or balloons.

I hate to say it, but the Ravens have looked like that type of team this year. I hate them as much as the next guy, but their offense is for real and their defense is about what it's always been, if a little older across the board.

As for rebuilding, I think we have a lot more in place than we give ourselves credit for. We have a lot of good, young talent on this team that, if supplemented by good FA pickups and smart drafting, along with a coaching change or two (playcalling has really been holding us back this year, IMO) we could be contenders in the very near future.

Finding a legit QB is far easier said than done, though, as we found out with Vince.

Then IMO, if we can't do BOTH, then we shouldn't do either.

Why build up a car with an engine with insane amounts of power, when you can't upgrade the brakes and suspension to harness all that power?
Why build up a car with huge brakes and stiff, great handling suspension when you don't have the power to fully utilize it on the track, or to be able to hang with the other cars?

Besides, we have several offense players that could run a West Coast (not all but a few), and a few defense players that could play in a 3-4, so we wouldnt' need to change everyone out.

I'm not sure why you think you need to run the 3-4 to be a dominant defense. Plenty of 4-3 defenses have done very well for themselves.

If we were going to switch to the 3-4 then keeping Haynesworth would have been essential; I don't think we have a DT on the team that's capable of consistently commanding the double team you need him to in an effective 3-4 system.

I agree, which will allow me to elaborate on our current personnel that would be qualified to switch over to a WC, and a 3-4.
    West Coast qualifiers:
    -our OL
    -CJ
    -Washington
    -Britt
    -Cook
    -Ringer
    -Scaife (if we keep him)

    3-4 qualifiers
    -JJ, Brown, Haye (DEs)
    -Vickerson (NT...maybe)
    -Mcrath/Tulloch (ILB)
    -KVB/Kearse (OLBs..but getting old)
    -our secondary

For the O, we'd definitely need a QB. For a WC offense that is based on short/medium passes, a Chad Pennington type would be perfect.
For the D, we'd need better OLB pass-rushers, and a nose tackle.
For anyone saying we couldnt' do it, IMO would pretty much be an admission that our current players lack the talent to make the switch. I believe they do, or else I wouldn't want them on this team.

Sorry but I'm not ready to give up on Vince yet. If Stubborn SOB, err I mean Fisher is adamant about not playing Vince, then they need to just release him now and spare us the bullshizz.

Not saying they don't. I just like the 3-4 better. It is more versatile, flexible, and it's easier to disguise where the pressure is coming from or where the coverage is gunna be. Going off the last few years, aside from the G-men, how many other championship caliber teams are or have been running the 4-3. (oh, and I'm not counting the Titans because w/o a QB, we are NOT a championship caliber team).

Not really. We can always find someone to play NT in a 3-4. Like I mentioned above. Vickerson would probably be the closest, but he would have to pack on some weight. Jason Jones might have the talent, but for him to be the size that it would require, IMO, would reduce his effectiveness (much like when Dobermans are bred to weigh over 100 lbs, it makes the agility they're known for a moot point).
