Clint Dempsey was arguably the best player on the U.S. squad and now the U.S. must go to South Africa without its star goal striker.

Sigh.. just when it seemed like we might field a team that didn't suck our star players all get injured. Onyewu, Dempsey, Davies.

It's seeming increasingly evident that the U.S. can expect a 2006 showing part deux and another 4 years of darkness.

I would love to see Freddie Adu promoted. He's the only player we've ever had that had success in big international tournaments, not only once, but twice now. And this year he starts twice, has 1 goal - 1 assist. I hope we tap into it. For too long we've made the so called safe choices, like Frankie Hedjuk and what not, instead of putting a real American team out there with an American style of play. Freddie Adu is not the best player, but he's the golden ticket, the rabbit's foot. Pull the trigger USA.

Adu has been a bust in Europe. He was truly hyped in USA and CM/FM, but he hasn't been able to adapt to European soccer.
He was bought by Benfica and has been on loan three times, to three different clubs. Right now he's playing in a Greek club, Aris Thessaloniki F.C.

If we'd just field our best athletes we'd beat most teams. They can't run with us, and we've shown that when we take chances. But- we'd rather stick with the conservative styles and try to play back and HOPE teams like Brazil don't score... ppfftttlol. Like that happens.

I remember when they'd not want to play Beasley either.

And yet he's the only player in the entire history of the world cup tournaments to have hatricks at each age group. The only player ever. Most of Jozy Altidores goals were assisted by Adu in those tournaments too. He starts for Team USA a couple of times and continues to produce. He's only 20 years old. All he's done is been successful for team USA. I think it's time he got his chance regardless of his struggles in Europe. He's the only player we've ever had that actually showed up when it counts, and he's beaten the brazilians too, so it's not like he hasn't had to do it against the world's best players. He can play at a world cup level in my opinion. Team USA put him in the qualifying rotation for a reason. I think they know he's got something, they just haven't been willing to pull the trigger. It's time.

Adu is just too much of a liability on defense, and as a center mid, it's key. Which is why all of the games you see him in, are end to end soccer, a lot less midfield possession. You could try play him up top but he doesn't have the speed to catch up to a ball, and he has to be in facing a defender in order to beat you. With that said, and the injuries to Davies, yes, bring him into camp. He does (did) have a knack for scoring goals, but unfortunately, it's been two years now since he's scored any meaningful goal. I thought he would be at the current camp, but maybe he wanted to see where he was getting loaned out to. Let's see if he gets some PT at Aris.

To be honest, if Jermaine Jones joins the team (wtf is up with this German? Commit or don't) I'd rather have him over Adu, Adu has significantly regressed over the past year and frankly Demarcus is just done. I'd be surprised if he gets called up to even be on the bench in SA.

It might be wise if we get Jones to implement a 4-5-1 formation and just rely on Donovan and Altidore to score our goals.
