Bulaga holds Morgan on several of the plays in that video, watch at 30 seconds as Bulaga gets beat and has no choice but to hold him.

I'll be optimistic and assume Morgan will end up being a solid DE for us.

The way I look at it is we can watch college video of Morgan playing a team like Duke and drool at what a stud he is. However here is the deciding factor.

Remember when KVB was playing at a pro-bowl level and getting double digit sacks. He was explosive around the corner and could beat NFL LTs. Then the last couple of years he lost a step and that slight difference in explosiveness and agility made him very average. Obviously KVB was done.

I would guess if KVB could go and play against Duke this year he would still look pretty good against that level of competition.

So the question is does Morgan have or can he develop that extra set of moves and that explosiveness to step up at the next level? I think it is appropriate to question if he can. We shall see pretty quickly.

Tyson Alualu was not a terrible pick for the Jags and he might end up being a top 3 DT in this draft.

He is a fast athletic DT that would fit our system well. A similar guy to Houston except Houston ran an even better 40 time, is 10 lbs heavier and lifted 9 reps more.

Nfl draft scout had Tyson Alualu ranked as the #4 DE. The Jags i assume were convinced they could not get him in rd 2 because a 3-4 team would snap him up.

Interesting that Tyson Alualu at 295 lbs ran an identical shuttle to derrick morgan and almost as fast a cone as Morgan. His 10 yard split and shuttle and cone were better than McCoy's.

He is a very good prospect.

RollTide, nobody said he wasn't good. He was just a reach. The Jags should of traded back to late 1st-early 2nd and they could of drafted him then, which they tried and were unsuccessful.

He is a reach based on what? Where mock drafts predicted he would be picked? The way I see it is the Jags obviously had him ranked as the best DT on their board and it actually makes sense. It also makes sense they saw him as the best fit for their defense.

It also makes sense that they didn't get a trade deal where they felt confident they could still get the guy after the trade. IMO if you really like a guy and feel he is a good fit the guy isn't a reach for your team.

Alualu obviously isn't at the same level as McCoy or Suh but he is a comparable player to Morgan at his position. Nobody would have thought Morgan was a reach there.

Right they tried to trade back but were unsuccessful. So they took the guy they wanted anyway.

Given their track record it's hard to have confidence that they know what they are doing and that is part of why people think they made a bad move but even idiots can nail a great pick every now and then.

Had we drafted Houston or Dunlap @ 16 people would have called the pick a reach but i think either of those guys would have been a great pick.

Tyson Alualu had 13.5 sacks and 21.5 TFL the last 2 years for Cal. Those are solid numbers. I think the Jags got every bit the value @ 10 that the Giants got at 15 with JPP. If he fails then at least they got the guy they wanted and didn't have to settle for a player that wasn't tops on their board.

Was it a lost step that hurt KVB or a lost Albert Haynesworth?

Good point. AH was able to reach over and throw KVB around the OT. Good point.

KVB was hardly ever double teamed last year and didn't need to be. OTs handled him without much problem. Even with AH in there he would have struggled to get sacks except he might have had a few garbage sacks where he is being manhandled but AH chases the QB into him.

Dunlap would not have been a good pick at # 73, much less 16.
