I agree about the Washburn situation. I feel it had to do with him not believing in Cecil or simply not wanting to work with Cecil. His Dline overachieved every year even when they were the ONLY hope of getting any pressure (no help with blitzing). I'd be ready to move on if I was Washburn too. He probably wants to win a championship

    I agree about Johnson too.

Why did my thread get merged?

Who owns a VY Jersey i paid 70 dollars for??? Me. I had as high of hopes as you did. I just realized it was time to give up the dream.

Vince does a good job of falling apart, himself. His drafting assisted in that process. Everyone is to blame, including Fisher, and Bud.

As if we wouldn't be falling apart if we had kept VY around. His feud with Fisher cost all of us. Finding out whose fault it is is unimportant at this point.

besides Washburn leaving, how is the team falling apart, anyway?

See? The topic is much more than just VY's issue, or issues. This whole situation was much, much more complicated than just VY, or for that matter, even just Jeff Fisher. I feel that all of us (myself included with parts) missed the boat on this whole issue. Most posters were so emotional they completely forgot about how each decision would influence the team.

I thought it was a great thread. I think it was a great statement by one poster who said "...this would be a great case study for any sports management major."

As far as how our team fell apart...team morale tanked, fan morale tanked, no QB (which can still be resolved), lost our best positions coach, kept Cecil and/or the defensive scheme (why Washburn most likely left), unstable head coaching position which means it will be tough to get good coaches and players in.

There's a lot stacked up against us next year, not to say we can't overcome it, but right now our franchise is in dissarray.

looking back So Far: I think the right decisions have been made. I was extremely pissed that we kept Fisher after another abysmal outcome. After thinking about it, noone knows for sure of course, but I think Bud did what he did for a few reasons.

    1. Fisher never wanted VY and after the blowup set out to bury him through his media sources and front office cronies. I think Bud had to let Vince go to let him find a team that the coach actually wanted him on. He couldn't keep him and fire Fisher because then you are looking for a coach to come in and take a qb who opinion is already tainted by with the negative media. He also gets to keep his personal relationship with VY right by explaining this to him ahead of his meeting with team officials.

    2. You don't know what's up with the CBA so why go hire a coach and also be stuck with Fisher's last year. I think this is pretty dead on based on the fact that no extensions have been offered.

    3. I think Bud believes that the team administrators have enough of the fanbase believing that if VY was gone the team could right itself easily. If it happens great (so many are thrilled he is gone), if it doesn't so what enough will stick around throughout the 2011 season to make excellent money anyway because they are Fisher believers.

    4. At the end of next season, if (and probably when) we finish the season by imploding he can laugh while firing Fisher because he owes him no more money. He can hire a new coach (which right hire or not) will bring more fans back because more of the Fisher faithful have been converted and the original malcontents have been won back over now that he finally made the change. Even if this coach isn't the right hire, they can play the "he's getting his sytem installed" game for a couple of years and if he pans out quickly all is great. Bud wins either way.

I think also all this talk that is now happening that the Titans will pick a d player because getting a qb in the draft will take time to develop is more Fisher spin. My guess is that they have been told to sign a veteran qb to a 1-3 year deal and they will pick a qb next year. If Fisher somehow pulls out a playoff team then great he gets to pick his own qb in the draft next season and if not then the new coach gets to select his own choice.

I believe Fisher has to at least go deep into the playoffs to extend his Titans future.

At first I was upset with Bud but now I realize (if I am mostly accurate in my above assumptions) there is a reason why Bud owns a football franchise that is lucrative every year regardless of not attaining a Superbowl ring. I think he has rung up 2011 as another year to make money and hopes 2012 can be the fast start to a championship team.

How long do teams typically keep their 1st picks around for? 10 years (bulk of their careers)? Because thinking about this, over the last 10 years we only have four of our 1st picks still here, and that includes only the last four 1st round picks we've had. To me that is flat out bad!

You sure about that? In five years VY could be a star starter somewhere in the league or he could be out of football completely. He's injured all the damn time and still has - gulp - some growing up to do, so who knows how many chances he'll get..
You can bet though that if Fish chooses to remain in the HC game for the next 15 years - he will, for some time and likely in a bigger market than here..

This is now a lame duck team with lame duck coaches. We MIGHT win 2 games next year. The Titans are a franchise in major disarray.
