Yeah. Again... if anyone supports the difference of opinions, it'd be me. I disagree with everyone on everything.

Again though, I'd like some support for opinions. Like True Grit. Still no one can say what they thought was great about it... just that it was great. Huh?

I mean, I don't get how people could dislike Extreme Prejudice or Death Wish 3, and they are reviled by most critics and those approaching film with any semblance of serious thought. But I think they're brilliant on a lot of levels. Different strokes.

Really? I don't get all the hate for Matt Damon. All the guy does is turn in solid performance after solid performance.

The little girl was great, and Damon at least acted... unlike Bridges. (usual) But he's a man's man.. so he was praised for his "acting".

Bridges is overrated. I said it, finally.

It was a crime he won best actor over Jeremy Renner and Colin Firth. Furthermore, his nomination this year costs Ryan Gosling his for a BRILLIANT performance in Blue Valentine. Also, are people on drugs? Jesse Eisenberg sucks SO badly at acting...

    Problem I see is this:

Everyone wants to be a film critic so bad. Step one? Pretend to like movies that you think no one else will. Step 2. Hate the moves that are entertaining. Step 3. Take a film class so you understand how to like movies like 'A Clockwork Orange'.

Like Rottentomatoes... at one point it was a great source. Now- anything that's rated 'Fresh' I know to avoid. Most things rated 'rotten' are worth checking out.

Just the way it goes. Everyone wants to try so hard to see something that others don't. But then everyone reads those reviews and sees what they should appreciate... so they do. It's odd.

Clockwork is my favorite film of all time.

I thought the humor was funny. I'm a fan of the Charlie Portis novel, and 98% of the dialogue was from the novel. However, it was executed in a much funnier way than in the original, where everything was so damn ham-fisted. I just genuinely liked the performances, although I thought Damon was the weakest.

You said the supporting performances were weak, but I thought they made the movie great. Brolin, Pepper, and Matthews were particularly good, albeit in small roles.

I thought the cinematography was great, but I also think Deakins is the best working in the business today. I liked the atmosphere and I liked the characters.

My girlfriend didn't like this film, sitting with sort of a smirk on her face, while I was chuckling throughout most of the movie. Honestly, the Coen's haven't done something this funny since O Brother Where Art Thou.

Rotten tomatoes is deceiving because it's an all or nothing scale. If a film gets basically universal "it's decent" review, but RT chooses to make most of those "it's decent" a fresh rating, you can get an okay to good film have a 95% rating. People will see a rating that high and think "Geez, critics loved it, it must be great." Well, no, a bunch of them thought it was okay, and thus the rating.

If you read over a lot of True Grit reviews, a ton of the "fresh" ones liked the movie, but didn't think it was anything special.

Critics themselves are fairly limited, and I'm finding have more biases growing every day.

I also put in a caveat that a ton of REALLY good movies, have like a 40-60%. In fact, I tend to pay attention to those films, just because that range the reviews are likely mixed and the film has divided critics, rather than just a consensus of "it's decent".

The supporting cast being weak weren't feature roles. Mostly guys that had no name. The guy at the traveling carnival at the end, the one the girl negotiated with at the beginning, etc. The others did well.

And good summary. I didn't see any humor there, but I didn't think it was intending to be humorous. The shooting competition between Bridges and Damon I saw it in, but can't recall too many other instances.
