Titans set to add Parlavecchio as coach
Posted on February 21, 2011 by JIM WYATT, The Tennessean

The Titans are set to add Chet Parlavecchio as an assistant coach on Mike Munchak’s staff.
Parlavecchio is expected to be an assistant linebackers coach with the Titans who could also assist with special teams.

Parlevecchio, teammates with Munchak at Penn State, was a 1982 sixth round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers and also played for the St. Louis Cardinals before a knee injury forced him to end his playing career in 1984.

Parlavecchio has been a high school coach since 1986, most recently served as head coach at Elizabeth High School in New Jersey.

The New York Giants named Parlavecchio as the "Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Year" in 2006.

no college or NFL experience as a coach :suspect:

I'm starting to get sick of these hirings. Any football friend he had he tries to hire. We don't even know if there are better candidates out there because he just wants his old football buddies on the staff.

Is he making up staff spots to get these guys in. Like we really needed an assistant Linebackers coach with Bush and McGinnis on the staff already.

With the comment about helping with special teams...maybe this is the guy who will ultimately replace Lowry....

He's a high school coach I'd rather keep Lowry.

He's an assistant coach. For all we know, he will be the guy delivering water to the players during breaks, or the guy who blows the whistle when the water break is over. Not worth complaining about.

It is though. He's putting his friends before being a professional and making the best decision for this franchise.

He's making the best decision as far as he is concerned, and we don't know he is wrong just yet.

He's surrounding himself with people he trusts, and knows are smart football people who respect him, and do it the way he wants it to be done.

Not many of us would do much differently if in his position. If there were some great coaching talents left out there, and he passed on them for his buddies, then blame can be tossed around. Fisher/Bud/Whoever left Munch over a barrel by hiring him this late and he is seriously doing the right thing, I believe.

if this guy had some experience coaching in the college or NFL no questions would be asked.....well maybe some :D

Coaching a high school football team is a far cry from college or the NFL or even the UFL

He's an assistant coach. If there's a spot Munch give his buddies from his playing days, then I'd rather it be this. All this guy will be doing is sitting with the defense as they break down film and stuff like that.
