It's pretty simple. If you do poorly on the wonderlic, chances are you've got sh&& for brains.

The people you used as an example are pretty solid in stating this.

McNabb- ever see him in the final 2 mins? It's horrifying how bad his clock management is, even in his prime as a vet. "I didn't know the game could end in a tie"... yeah. Point made.

Marino may have been good enough to overcome it, but he's definitely not the smartest guy around.

Steve McNair was a total dunce and did MANY stupid things on field and off. Him being dead doesn't make him some hall of famer, either... wish people would stop making him the Tupac of QBs.

But regardless... a handfull of guys in the past 20 years did bad on the wonderlic and ended up being solid players?... That doesn't really help.

    Um...

20-30 years ago, the wonderlic was NOT something QB's prepared for like they do today. So Kelly and Marino are bad examples. But let's look at VY for a comparison. He scored a 6 the first time he took it (he'd never practiced it before) and got a 16 the 2nd time around. If he can boost his score by 10 points just with a little prep, I'd suggest a Marino scoring a 15 probably would hit a 25 with prep as well.

BUT...even if you throw that argument out the window. The FACT is, in the last decade, there has ONLY been one elite or near elite QB with a wonderlic under 25 (McNabb). This means there is about a 1% chance we get the boom and over 90% chance he busts or doesn't NOT live up to expectations.

You wanna take those odds at the risk of setting the franchise back 2-5 years? I don't!

His score was the same as Mcnair and VY combined.

ROFLMAO! Tebow started 3 games. Bradford started the whole season. Tebow only attempted 82 passes. Bradford threw 590! Tebow threw a ho-hum 5 td passes. Bradford threw 18! Tebow threw for about 650 yds. Bradford threw for about 3500! Tebow ONLY had a 50% completion rate. Bradford threw at a 60% clip!

Which QB is better? Here's a hint - even the Broncos say Tebow is NOT the starting QB. Yes, Tebow had a higher passer rating. Which QB would you rather have on the Titans?

In college yes. He won't be in the NFL. If he tries to wrack up 1000 yds rushing, he'll get hurt. Vick is an elite runner. VY is very good. Newton is more of a Tebow run over you type and they don't translate that well in the NFL.

    Well...

It's great in college when you're trying to win games.

It's BAD when projecting your passing skill set to the NFL.

McNair sat in the bench and learned for a few years. Are you suggesting Newton is as good his first year in the league as McNair learning in the NFL for several years? I would strongly disagree with this.

Or are you suggesting we follow the same path...draft Newton and let him learn for 3 years and then we wait another couple of years until HOPEFULLY he maximizes his talent? In which case I don't want him in round 1. CJ's career isn't gonna wait for a 5 year QB development. Plus, then we have to start a vet QB for a few years...so why spend the pick on a QB in rnd 1?

Why not? Take a look at the evidence! Why do you think people compile stats?

Your stats make no sense. You are crediting Bradford simply for playing more?

It's a relative arguement! Bradford is viewed as the next great QB while Tebow after just 3 games is viewed as a bust. The bottom line is that Tebow in the time he had to play was every bit as good or better.

Tebow averaged 66 yards rushing in those 3 starts i guess we don't count that.

Yes because Mcnair was a hick country boy from little Alcorn St and Newton won a championship.

    Tim Tebow vs Sam Bradford..

    Passing rating:Tebow 82.1
    Bradford 76.5

    TD to int ratioTebow(5-3) 1.66
    Bradford(18-15) 1.2

    Comp %Tebow 50%
    Bradford 60%

    Yards per attempt
    Tebow 8.0
    bradford 6.0

    Rushing yards per start

    Tebow 66
    Bradford 4

What in these numbers suggests that Bradford is a future god of QBs while Tebow is a poster child for failure? Tebow averaged more rushing yards per start than Bradford got all year.

Want to talk about leadership or durability in college?

And why is John Elway now the genius of QB analysis while Warren moon is not? Elway might be the next Matt Millen.

I should clarify what I meant. I said this earlier in the post, but I will repeat it here.

I think extremely low Wonderlic scores matter a lot. Anything 10 or lower is enough to make me take a QB off my draft board. 10-20 and I consider removing him.

That said, I am really not that concerned about the range from 20-40. There have been plenty of great QBs who scored in the 20s. Even though Locker and Newton scored relatively low for QBs, I still wouldn't be too worried about their intelligence. I would be far more concerned about their work ethic, leadership and football intelligence.

    Um...

You can't just extrapolate 3 starts into an entire season and compare him to a guy who actually DID play a whole season. Bradford is better for a number of reasons.

Started a whole season and kept a 60% completion percentage, threw over 3000yds, threw more than 15 TD's, had more TD's than INT's, and did this without a lot of help. Tjhere are many QB's who have higher passer ratings over 3 games...and a lot of them don't become full starters or get don't maintain that QB rating when they have to play a full season.

Again, if you could have Bradford or Tebow, which QB would you want???

No one is disputing Tebow did well in the few opportunities he had. But if he did that well and even his own coach doesn't think he's good enough to start yet, that should tell you something. And in general, a 50% completion percentage is not a good sign for maintaining offense. I don't see Tebow as a bust as he's barely played. We'll know in 1-3 more years. The difference is, Bradford is ahead of schedule!

Sure you can count that. But if you can't throw the ball better than 50% completion, you can't be a fulltime starter.

So we'll see if he can throw for 2600, run for 600, score 22 TD's and have more TD's than INT's throwing the ball...

So, if you could pick either QB to quarterback the Titans next year, which would you take and why?
