Hasselbeck sounds like he would be an awesome mentor. He even specifically mentions Jake Locker in this quote:

The article is worth a read.

My mistake, I thought your post suggested you actually wanted Todd Collins here, lol.

After how Todd Collins played in that nfc championship game he shouldn't be allowed near an nfl practice field again.

I probably should have made myself more clear or used the:sarcasm::sarcasm: smile.

That's a great point. If we want a guy to step in for just one year Collins is the guy (Locker will probably hit the field halfway through the season) or if we need a guy for a couple years then Hasselbeck because he also seems to be the guy that would help and mentor Locker after reading what he said about him.

I don't want a career back up coming in because what's the point in that? You either bring in a QB that can win for us now or can help out Locker. I have a good feeling Locker is going to be ready to start sooner rather than later and having either Collins for 1 year or Hasselbeck for a couple is the best scenario. We don't want the McNabb drama or someone like Bulger, Fitz, or Kolb. Locker is the future, not a filler for a couple years.

Is there any chance that Kerry Collins would re-structure his contract?

Its probably gonna be hard to find a good QB that's gonna want to come in knowing he's expected to groom a QB that is expected to take over the starting spot sooner then later.

You'll probably need a career journeyman like Todd Collins or Rex Grossman.

I wouldn't be surprised if Locker wins the job outright during training camp.

if the scenario came strictly down to Locker winning the starting job i wonder if that would hurt him in the long run? i think it would do him some good to sit at least a half a season and digest the pro game and learn.i'm leery of throwing him to the wolves too soon.just think our second or third game is Baltimore! no way i want Locker in there facing Ray Lewis and company in just his second or third start.

as much as i am eager to watch him start and take control of this team i think at all costs we need a veteran QB to start the season.not a big fan of Collins but i guess maybe he would be the guy if we couldn't find someone else before the season starts.we are not expected to make the postseason anyway.this upcoming season is the start of a new era and it might take a year or two for us to contend again.i'm thinking we are doing what Atlanta and Tampa have had to do recently and that is start over.now both of those teams are winning again.

What contract? Collins' deal ran out after 2010.
If Todd Collins comes in, I'll blow us all up. You can thank me when I see you in Heaven.
