With Collins retiring there's no doubt in my mind that this year CJ will get a very heavy workload.

It's a throw away year with winning being a longshot. Another year of CJ in his prime wasted without a strong QB.

He would be stupid not to hold out. I really think the best option for CJ and the team is to trade him.

He doesn't waste his best years and we get draft picks to boost the rebuilding.

Your assuming Locker isn't going to produce his rookie year. I'm not saying he is or he isn't, but he might be effective in the right system.

Why trade the most explosive back in the league because you perceive that we won't be good one year? What if we're good next year? Would the trade still be a good decision? What if Locker comes on strong or we get a vet that can manage our offense? How does trading CJ help out our rookie QB? How does trading our biggest offensive weapon help our offense?

How is gambling on draft picks a better option than retaining a proven player who is still in his prime?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

I think this is pretty short-sighted.

First, Collins retiring makes this year a certain waste? Did people believe that the Titans were a contender with Collins? Hasselbeck (and several other guys) gives the Titans a better chance to win than Collins did. With good veteran QB play, the Titans could be a playoff team. Probably not, but it's not out of the question.

Second, what is there to say that the Titans won't contend in 2012 and 2013? We have seen several rookie quarterbacks go deep into the playoffs in recent years. I don't think there's any reason to think the Titans couldn't do the same.

The Titans are a much better team than other rebuilding team. The Titans are only a few missing pieces away from being a legitimate contender.

The biggest missing piece that we'll benefit from is Fisher.

I think Locker is a good prospect who would benefit most from sitting out his first year.

I think we can't protect him or open whole consistently for CJ with Amano at centre.

With a rookie QB we will be a run first team again.
With another year of over work pounding aginst 8 men in the box CJ will just get more mileage on his legs with little return.

I hate to see a talent like CJ wasted on a crap team.I'd rather see him run riot and make a difference to a true contender while he still can.

Lockers time is not now with even the best will in the world. It's in his 2nd or 3rd year.

The odds are stacked against us winning this season. High picks give us a great opportunity to get whoever we want in next years draft.

Collins leaving means we will win more than we lose. I'm telling ya.

As much as I love CJ it does make more sense to trade him. For his sake as well as ours. He could go to a good team get paid more then he would in Tennessee and have better production under an offense with a solid QB and an offense not built strictly around him.

CJ is a beast and we would be giving up a lot but there is no way that he can handle a bigger load then last year and still be productive in future years when we hope to compete for a super bowl. I'm not saying this upcoming season is a waste and we should throw it away, but realistically we are probably going to be the worst in the division and are going to have some growing pains that will keep us from reaching the super bowl this year.

I think it just all depends on who we grab when FA starts and how much CJ thinks he should get paid. I'm not ok with giving CJ top money like he is probably going to want, but if he wants something reasonable we should pay him.

My guess is that after going 3-13 in 1998, the Rams fans felt the same, or probably worse than you do about their team. The following season the Rams lost their starting QB for the season in their first preseason game, and went on to go 13-3 and win the Super Bowl. I think we can recall that.

CJ isn't going anywhere and the Titans could care less if he gets wasted on a bad team or all that other BS. Maybe some of you have short memories but Munch and MR drafted Harper, not to take over for CJ but to take over some carries so CJ doesn't have to carry as big of a load. So I don't get this concept that CJ is going to have to handle an even bigger role when the new HC has openly stated verbally and through his actions (drafting a big RB) that they don't want CJ busting it up the middle 20+ times a game.

Speaking of the Rams I think they see CJ being a little more like Faulk even though he isn't as good of a receiver. He will still get plenty of touches, just not as many where he gets bashed running up the middle.

Now projecting that the team will suck and be a 2-14 or 3-13 type team is simply guessing. The fact is we simply don't know what is going to happen. There have been many teams in this situation that ended up being in the playoffs or at least fighting for a spot.

How about the Ravens, went from 5-11 to 11-5 with Flacco his rookie year. The Falcons went from 4-12 to 11-5 Ryan's rookie year. The Rams went from 1-15 to 7-9 in Bradford's rookie year. Of course we have the example of the 1998 4-14 Rams who traded for a RB (I know meaningless position) and went 13-3 and won a SB.

I read Childress' post as saying this already was a lost season - regardless of KFC.
