Key word: "Sounds". People say a lot of things when they're mad. I don't expect all that many people will cancel over this at the end of the day. And of the ones that do I expect many of them to come crawling back in a few months once they realize there are no other *legal* alternatives out there that give you the amount of content Netflix does for such a low, low monthly price. $8/month for unlimited streaming is STILL a fantastic deal. $8/month for a 1-disc out at a time plan is STILL a fantastic deal. $16/month for both services is STILL a fantastic deal.

Again, the reasons for the increase are readily available and clear as day for anyone who bothers to look. I even linked to an excellent article regarding the climate of the streaming market. The people that are flipping their lid over this are simply ignoring the facts and/or being selfish and entitled.

Yet again, improving their services costs money. Big money. Assuming by "improve their service" you mean offer more content. Would you be any happier if they announced that their streaming catalog was going to double but streaming plans would now cost $30/month? I seriously doubt it.

I'd be happy to pay $10 a month for only streaming if I didn't have to order DVDs to watch the movies that I want to watch.

Like I said, I'll give them a second chance in January.

I highly doubt their expenses went up 100%... sorry.

You can play corporate apologist if you want, but we all know that's ridiculous.

In what scenario wouldn't people flip their lid about an overnight doubling of cost?

It'd be different if it were a couple dollars... but doubling? Seems a bit overboard.

Especially when I can get a service better than netflix for free online. And I can stream ANY movie I want there.

Redbox is probably about to jump them due to this. Not very smart.

Judging from a few of your recent posts it seems like you've been pretty down on their streaming service, even before any price changes. Why not just do the 1 DVD only plan for $8 and use Hulu, sidereel, etc. for streaming?

Exactly the point I was just making in response to Duece. :)

I had streaming only anyway, so it's not a big deal to me. I hardly even watch the streaming. Since cutting off my cable I've stopped watching everything, and it is good. I've saved myself 140 bucks in two months already. Netflix may go soon, but the beauty of that is that your friends can steal netflix from you for free. I've got it on my xbox, and my buddy and his wife watch mine on their xbox all the time too. People should sell the streaming for like 2 dollars a month.

Can't you run up to like 5 devices??? You could make money off of Netflix.

Admit it... unlimited streaming and as many DVDs as you can watch in a month for $10 was an absolute steal. I've heard numerous people say that over the years and I've definitely said it myself. Even after the increase it's still more than a fair deal. I know it's technically a "doubling" in price and that can be hard to swallow. But I truly believe this is a survival move for Netflix. Not a greedy one. And for that reason I don't have a problem with it.

And for the third time to the third different person I ask this question.... what's the *legal* alternative that's so much better? Yes there are free streaming sites. But do they have the content that Netflix offers? And how are you going to make up for that content difference? Illegally download? Drive down to the mom & pop video store and pay $3 for a one-night rental?

I'm not saying it wasn't a steal, I'm just noting a 100% increase on anything is crazy.

It could be a survival tactic, but I think it's going to have the opposite effect. All it takes now is one swift move from redbox- and they'll wipe netflix out. And if you're Redbox, right about now you have to be thinking it's worth the hit on the pocket for a little while to make such a move.

I only use the stream feature from Netflix and the selection is alright. So nothing changes much for me.

I love how 7.99-10 is basically a steal for the content you're provided, but it goes up 6 dollars for both, and it's suddenly highway robbery.

Again, $16 a month isn't unreasonable, especially if you're using a lot of the content weekly. It just isn't a steal anymore.
