We can afford to pay CJ.

Locker is not going to get even half what VY got as a rookie contract so we are not going to be short of money.

The Panthers just screwed us over in terms of leverage by over paying De Angelo Williams.

I have real problem with us paying:

    Jovan Haye $4million
    Chris Hope $6.5 million
    Nate Washington $4.5 million
    Justin Gage $3.5 million
    Marques Douglas $1.25 million

Washington and Gage don't deserve that remuneration IMO but replacing them would likely cost more.

It's frustrating looking back at some of the crap players we've overpaid over the years. We rarely break the bank to go out and get a star free agent and we rarely break the bank to keep our best free agents.

CJ is asking for money early but Darrelle Revis set a precedent for that last year. I have no problem in paying a known quantity like CJ to keep him here and happy during his best years.

I don't have a contract. I am an UFA. Thats the way it is for most Tennesseans.

But back to CJ, who does have a contract FWIW.

CJ is worth whatever it takes too sign him, if he is used as the speed weapon he is. The way he has been misused, expecially last year, he is worth no more than any other top 10 back. Hopefully current Titan regime can take advantage of his uniqueness and everyone can win.

But I think CJ has been well paid for a powerback, cause thats how fish face used him.

    Pay him

First let me say I believe he deserves a better deal. Second, I would definitely want to see a good injury clause put into it though. Third year in and if we don't make some huge strides in our line then he is bound to take a pounding again. I would hate to get into a huge payout and then he gets injured.

Good point about the way he's used ha ha.

I'm hoping this coaching staff is better than the last. Otherwise I'll be the 1st to post in TitansErick's "Scrub Coaching Staff" thread

Running backs are a dime a dozen. Let him hold out, if he wants to play run him into the ground and once the contract is up let him go.

I agree with all those, but every team has free agent mistakes. Ours look pretty minimum compared to other teams. Even Hope gave us two good years before falling off. I was never on board with Haye, Gage, or Douglas. I liked Washington, but he seems to be getting pushed out by the younger guys. I still don't like the Amano signing.

All in all, you have to consider that we never overpaid for Haynesworth, we never went out and signed players like Rocky Bernard (I remember people clamoring for him, just got released), Michael Boley, Dunta Robinson, etc.

as a general rule, I would shy away from all FAs unless you knew they fit the team schemewise.

How many players have came to Tennessee and thrived, well plenty compared to the busts. And those have usually been injury or WR related. Often times both.

Overall I commend the FO for their proper evaluation of our talent, and their ability to avoid crippling mistakes on other teams talent.

More than likely your boss thinks in the exact same way.

    If he's smart, at least.
