Are the Titans still good at developing offensive linemen?

I thought this was a pretty good article. Makes it pretty apparent that we arent getting much from our draft picks and we are paying for an elite line (salary cap wise) but not getting the production from them

"I estimate that the aggregate 2011 cap value of the five starting offensive linemen was $24.98 million of an estimated cap value of $112 million for the entire team. Even after the Titans made Chris Johnson the highest-paid running back in football, the offensive lineman took up 35% more cap space than the other six starters on that side of the ball (Hass/CJ/Hall/Cook/Britt/Washington, Stevens/Cook is a wash). And have the Titans gotten the elite offensive line play they're paying for? I don't think anybody thinks that."

Amano is the reason this is being talked about, but yes I think we still develop our linemen. last year was a funky year, there was no off season, and our O-Line coach's focus wasn't on the line, but the entire team.

This topic is a year premature.

Hopefully lots of improvement with a whole offseason and camp. Not just the O-line, but the whole team in general.

So what this article is saying?

Is we may not be good at developing linemen because we have drafted 6 in the past 6 years and those have not panned out? None above the 4th round?

Does it mention anything about Scott being fairly good since we signed him? What about Mawae? Point is, we did not need to push the issue of developing linemen when we have had a pretty good line the past few years.

This article is no different than saying we should not have drafted Pacman or Young.

I do not like articles like these at all.

I'd say our cheapest lineman was easily the worst(Harris). Jake Scott was in the last year of his deal, which is typically the highest-paid in base salary. Amano is over-paid, no doubt about it. I'd say Dave Stewart and Michael Roos are playing up to their contracts.

We didn't develop Scott or Mawae. When we signed them, they were pretty much as good as they'd ever get. This article is talking about how weak our depth appears after Roos, Stewart and the 3 stooges.

Let's cut Amano and J. Scott. Replace them with FA.

    I know, I understood that.

What I am saying is, since we had such a good line with those guys, why would we bring in talent from free agency or spend anything significant on them in the draft?

Last year, looking back, yes of course. But again like I was saying, hind site is 20/20. Its easy for me to say we should have drafted Moss instead of Dyson, but back then we didn't really know.

I disagree with this being premature. This goes back the last 7 seasons. I think the Titans have been a little overly confident in thinking that they could develop talent and "coach players up". Thats why we ran into last years issues. We havent been able to develop these younger players and have them step in as older players move out. Its especially evident when you see how poorly these guys are playing in comparison to how they are getting paid. I think that rather than draft lower round linemen like we have done in the past, we should draft linemen in the top 3 rounds and take KNOWN talent

We may have our next guard already on the roster. Duke Robinson was snatched up right after the season, he seems like with the right coaching could become a solid NFL player. He'll have plenty of competition in training camp, but don't be surprised if he emerges the starter.

His short comings in Carolina came from immaturity and holding out. The fact we signed him tells me he's got to be ready to play.
