That's fine and what not, but the reason we've been able to wait for linemen in the draft is because most people get caught up in measurables. Teams will draft a guy just because he's 6'5" 320. The Jets for example took Vlad Ducasse in the 2nd round, I played with Vlad and he sucks! But he's huge so he got drafted.

The guys we take are intelligent and can grow into better athletes over time. It's way easier to coach a guy and get him to ideal size/strength, than it is to make him smarter. Our coaches realize this so they know they can get great value.

Outside of Hopkins and Roos, who have the Titans drafted early? I just don't see it happening. If you get a guy in the 7th round, do you really expect him to play much? I think of those guys as long term projects who may one day start.

Otto is a good back-up, he's developed just fine.

Nice point. Get a FA center then let Harris/Amano/Robinson/Velasco fight it out for the OG spots.

Amano proved he could play OG just fine. So you could say that we developed him into a starting OG.

I see our problem being developing a center. That is what just hasn't happened. We tried to move Hartwig to center and that was a failure. Amano was a center in college, but hasn't gotten it done. Harris was supposedly the top center on our draft board per Fisher when we drafted him. We obviously wanted him to develop into our future starting center and that hasn't happened either.

We need to either pick up a vet center in FA or make sure we draft Konz in the 1st.

First off, let's be completely honest with one another an throw all of the cards out on the table. Munchak and Matthews are Hall of Famers but were and are average offensive line coaches with what they have had to work with. Brad Hopkins was the last offensive linemen the Titans selected in the first round, the year was 1993. Do you want to know the last time the Oilers/ Titans selected an offensive linemen in the first round before Brad Hopkins? David Williams (1989), 23 years ago. That is pathetic.

If you give Matthews some actually talent to work with he will be regarded as a great offensive line coach. Does everyone see how this works? Get the talent, the offensive line plays better, the offensive line coach looks like he is doing a excellent job.

Stop with the excuses, the offensive line with not be good until they select some talent. No more selecting linemen in the 5th round and throwing them into the lineup because they have "potential".

    all disagree with you.

Munch and Matthews are the offensive equivalent of Jim Washburn. They have done an outstanding job for this team since they were drafted.

You answered my question for me. Washburn had talent to work with. The majority of the players he had (Haynesworth, Kearse, etc. ...) were all first rounders. If you give Matthews the same kind of talent, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Question: Out of that list (those that haven't retired), did any of them go anywhere and play outstanding? Don't worry, I'll wait.

I think we are. Roos & Stewart are obviously two great examples, not too mention the past like Pillar, Hopkins, etc.

Scott & Mawae we didn't develop

Amano is a horrible C but is actually a decent G. Heck, he started at G when CJ ran for 2K yards, he can't be that bad?

Harris is ok, he'd be better with Amano at G. Having Harris at G and Amano at C is what makes Harris look bad (if that makes sense).

Plus the backup talent like Otto & Velasco always looks good when they have to come in. Two more guys we developed.

Majority means more than 2 FYI.

You seem to be confused about the subject of our conversation. You can wait all you want. We don't need to have HoF linemen every season to be competitive. You don't know what you are talking about, don't worry though, lots of people here don't.

didn't we change to the same blocking scheme that Houston uses? They sucked for years before finally getting it together. I think that has some to do with how terribly the O-line played last year. hopefully in offseason and preseason, they bring in a FA and maybe try Amano at G and Harris at C and see how it goes. Oh and let Velasco and Robinson fight for the starting gig as well.

Remember our O-line only practice for less than a month with each other before the season started. Hard to come together and be on the same page with all the plays they have in the playbook in that short of a time. Especially with a new O-line coach.

I understand it's probably the same plays or same scheme the O-line knows already. If it's anything different, it's much more harder. Knowing what to do is totally different than doing it. It takes time to accomplish this.
