KVB was never regarded as a top DE. He had his moments, but beyond the one season he posted 12 sacks in Tennessee, he's never been looked at as a special player. Years after Blaine Bishop left he's still being talked about as one of the best the Titans have ever had.

Bishop is up there with Eddie George, Steve McNair, Frank Wycheck, and Jevon Kearse.

I'm a Titan fan, not Bud's banker. Can you justify creating that big of a hole? After giving Chris Hope $6 million to do nothing? Finnegan does a lot for this community and this team. Not even an offer?

Franchise tag at least gives the Titans another season to shore up it's defense before finding Finnegan's replacement.

If you're talking about a player who played with fire, animosity and precision, then yes, KVB fits the bill. I don't think anyone has labeled Finnegan as a "top CB", either. Finnegan is no Blaine Bishop just as KVB is no Kearse (in his prime).

The Titans did make him an offer last year in the pre-season and he turned it down. I think it was for 4 years $28 million. He turned down $7 million per year because he wants more money.

Let's not act like the Titans haven't tried. Those of us who don't want him resigned is because if he gets the type of money he's asking for (around $10 million some think) that takes one third of the space we have under the salary cap. All that for a player whose play is vastly overrated and makes NOWHERE near the impact that someone who makes $10 million per season should make.

Wouldn't you guys rather sign Freeney or Mathis with that $10 million? QB pressure covers a multitude of sins and we could fill in the vacant CB position with a less expensive player.

I would rather keep Finny than be able to sign Freeney or Mathis. But that is me. In my ideal world we would pay finny 8m a year for 5 years.

We were in the neighborhood of $17 million under last season. With written notice before FA, that can roll into next season. The cap is there. We have the second most cap space in the league right now. These deals can get done. Finnegan is an impact player. If he leaves, he'll be missed. With the franchise tag, we are at least afforded time to find a suitable replacement. We have a lot of holes to be filled this offseason. Why create another one when it's completely avoidable?
