Yes. I very much enjoyed the 80's vibe.

It's not about whether you watch silent movies or not. It's about boasting about it..

I haven't noticed anyone really "boasting" about the inability to sit through a 100 minute silent movie.

I just don't see myself having the patience sit through this movie... maybe I'll watch it some day, but there's no way if want to now.

Let's say The Artist used the same story, but with speaking and in color... Would it still have won best picture?

    ^Nope.

Well, maybe. It did kiss Hollywood's taint... so good possibility.

No one wants to see Bullitt, Point Blank, Vanishing Point, Two Lane Blacktop or any of the other countless classics that Drive emulated...shame.

    Older movie not popular.

    Drive releases.

Older movies not popular, because of Drive.

Name me one movie that you loved from the 1970's and I'll disprove your argument in two sentences (with the exception of The Godfather).

There are car chases that took place in the 60's and 70's that make Drive look like child's play.

Actually, yeah. It means I can open my mind and broaden my horizons simply by enjoying a piece of art, rather than being spoon fed by the endless BS that comes out weekly. These silent films paved the way for the movies you know and love, though God knows what they are...

lol. It just means you have a weird interest or you were born in the 30's, or both. I can appreciate art, but silent films are outdated.

If you drew a stick figure 3000 years ago, today it'd be art. If you drew it today its just a crappy drawing.

    1) I'm 24 years old and appreciate all facets of cinema because I view it as an art form. Is Shakespeare outdated? The Bible? Roman and Greek Mythology? No. They are still being studied vigorously...so, again, how is silent cinema outdated? Just because something is created in an earlier time doesn't mean it doesn't hold any merit, truth or significance.

    2) There isn't one person in this world who can definitively define art; thus, your argument is DEEPLY flawed and to be honest, it holds no merit, whatsoever.
