DT is a huge need, and Devon Still is good, but don't say he is a guy that eats up blockers. He is a penetrating DT that is better suited as a DE in a 34. He will be a solid DT in a 43, but don't expect him to anchor a Dline and free up all this sPace. Fletcher Cox and Dontari Poe are guys that eat up blockers and penetrate and stuff the run. DT is a position that has ample busts year in and year out so we have to be careful. It's all about BPA and with the prospects the OP set for us how can any of you pass up Claiborne. He is by far the best defensive player in the draft.

I think dontari poe is the perfect guy for us.... To bad he'll be gobbled up by our pick

I feel like a lot of the reason us fans aren't all for lineman picks are because they aren't the "sexy" pick that we all love. But the truth is, you build a football team from the inside out. So while I do hope we go BPA, I'm secretly hoping that player is a dlineman (dt more specifically). The only problem that I have with this is that none of the DTs look to be anything special, in my eyes at least.

Morris Claiborne, obviously. If we are pretending he is still there at #20.

Man I hate the idea of taking a DT in round one, I just don't get many of you. I don't think interior lineman, offensive or defensive, should be taken in round one. Those guys are plentiful after the first round. Unless you're talking about a special player like a Reggie White, Warren Sapp, Suh, players like that. And, trust me, there are ZERO DT's in this draft with the ability of those guys. Gimme a Perry, Mercilus, Barron in the first followed by a Brandon Thompson or Mike Martin in round 2, thats the way to go.

If Morris Claiborne is there hypothetically than I would take him

    1 Morris Claiborne
    2 Brandon Thompson
    3 Cam Johnson
    4 Lineman
    5 Frank Alexander
    6 lineman
    7 bpa

    sounds solid to me

    Look at Henderson and Stroud.

Those guys were nightmares a few years ago. I don't like the idea of not taking someone in the first because of a position they play. Outside of kickers/punters. Look at the success we have had at corner. Why should we use our first on a corner considering in the last 10 years all of our firsts round corners have been busts and all of our starters have been mid to late rounds?

Very good point. But for the sake of this thread, Claiborne would be the BPA and he is leaps and bounds better than any corner we have ever even had a chance at in the first round.

Also agree with the poster that said good-great DTs can be had in the later rounds, very true. But if the DEs are taken and fletcher Cox or Dontari Poe are sitting there... Look out.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0IaNI-3sw4"]Dontari Poe - YouTube[/ame] Watch this video and see if you still want him. I even go to the University of Memphis, and I wouldn't take him with the 20th pick. He's a huge workout beast, but he's not good at football.

After watching all the DT prospects game tapes and looking over the stats, I believe Devon Still is our best bet with Fletcher Cox right behind him(IF we go DT in the first). I'm just not convinced Brockers is that good.

Our FO obviously likes production more than combine performance. We took Klug and Casey last year(not sexy picks but both had great collegiate stats). I believe DT may very well be the pick in the 1st, so don't be surprised if Still or Cox get picked there.

Another guy that you should look out for in the 2nd or 3rd round: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJsmdwFcPyg"]Derek Wolfe Highlight: 2011 Big East Defensive POY - YouTube[/ame] Derek Wolfe looks like a guy our coaches would like; 21.5 tfl and 9.5 sacks last year at Cinci.

I've been saying that for awhile Poe just isn't a great player. He's big and super athletic but he's not dominant. Also been on Wolfe's bandwagon for awhile, mocked him to us in an earlier mock draft I did. He didn't have an amazing Senior Bowl but he was wasn't bad either, just played good. A guy like he could be there for us in round 3 but who knows. I think many of the 3-4 teams are gonna envision him as a JJ Watt clone so he many not get out of the end of round 2.
