Make your own 2012 Draft Scenarios

Imagine if we got Mercilus(16 sacks, 22.5 tfl) and Wolfe(9.5 sacks, 21.5 tfl) in the 1st and 3rd rounds, and they're production levels weren't a fluke. WOW, d-line issues no longer. I can see our coaches doing something like this WAY before they take a chance on someone just because they look good.

2nd - Hightower/Kendricks

3rd - Wolfe/Martin

4th - Molk/Blake

This is a scenario that I would like to see in the real draft:

Round 1: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois

Even with the signing of Kamerion Wimbley, the Titans still need to add at DE. Mercilus brings the type of athleticism that has been seen before in Jason Pierre-Paul, though maybe to a lesser degree. Like Pierre-Paul he has had the one year wonder tag put upon him but I feel he'll be able to shrug that off with dominant play. He has all the pass rushing moves and most importantly he gets to the QB and has a knack for forcing fumbles. Kamerion Wimbley, Derrick Morgan and Whitney Mercilus could give the Titans a solid pass rush for years to come.

Round 2: Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson

He is a very clever player both on and off the field, he can take up double teams and is an excellent run stopper. He also opens up a lot of holes for the pass rush and has a nifty bull rush of his own that he utilised at Clemson to rush the opposing QB from time to time.

Round 3: Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech

Hoping he falls into the third round, if not, then Casey Hayward might be available. Solid zone corner with good speed. Breaks on the ball and makes plays and has good ball skills. He could be a force in our zone coverage scheme.

Round 4: Tommy Streeter, WR, Miami

Streeter has all the measurable’s to be an absolute stud, he needs to work on his route running. He also could improve his catching technique. But this guy has the potential to be a #1 or #2 receiver in this league.

Round 5: David Molk, C, Michigan

Excellent pass protector and run blocker. His game needs some refinement but he could come in and challenge for the starting position instantly.

Round 6: Danny Trevathan, OLB, Kentucky

A tackling machine, he is one of the best all-round linebackers in this draft. Would be solid value in the sixth round and could be Will Witherspoon's eventual successor.

Round 7: Best player available

 

I would like to go DT in the 1st round, depending on who is left on the board obviously. I think Still or Cox would fill a hole, and possible make everyone around them better. Casey and Still/Cox in the middle would be hard to handle, and should free up the DE's / LBs. But if the FO thinks there are some good DTs to be had in the 2nd or 3rd round, then by all means take a DE in the 1st.

 

That's the whole point. There are some positions on the field that are scheme specific and DT is one of them. What this means is that DT's that fit more of the 4-3 mold (smaller and better pass rushers) will slip down in the draft just based on teams defensive scheme needs. A guy like Poe, for instance, is a a perfect 3-4 NT but in a 4-3 scheme he wouldn't be ideal. Some DTs like, Still and Brockers could be seen as DE's in a 3-4 scheme based on their height and size. This is my long way of saying there will be damn good DT's that will fall to us in round 2 that will fit the 4-3, so if we are patient we'll get a stud there.

Look who we got last year; Casey a perfect 4-3 penetrating DT and that was round 3!

 

Poe has BUST written all over him to me. He tore up the combine but he had mediocre production. For a guy with athleticism like that why didn't he dominate? Especially with the weaker competition UM faced in football.

 

LSU d linemen that are drafted high tend to not work out like DE Tyson Jackson and DT Glenn Dorsey

 

As somebody who watched Memphis football this year (Yes, feel sorry for me. It was rough.) I can say that Poe had absolutely zero help on the field. It's hard to sack the quarterback when you are getting double teamed and all of his receivers were wide open.
