Knoz or Barron make the most sense if you balance need with strength of draft

If you want to take advantage of the strength of the draft balanced with need then Knoz or Barron make the most sense.

Center is obviously a huge need for us. Using nfl.com draft grades Knoz is rated an 86 only Ben jones has a grade higher than 75.

At the safety position Barron is graded a 90 and smith a 84.5. Brandon Taylor from LSU is the only other player with a grade higher than 75.

Compare it to CB which as 14 players with grades higher than 75.
DE and DT each have 11 players with grades higher than 75.

So by going Konz or Barron in the 1st we fill a big need with a quality player and then use the depth of the draft to find solid rotational guys at positions of less need.

It is the conservative way to draft but makes it more likely that we fill our needs with solid players.

Aren't both these guys expected to be gone before 20?

Barron is expected to be gone. Konz will certainly be there.

I wouldn't say both are a sure lock to be gone by time we pick at 20..

However, I wouldn't select either at pick #20.

Konz is there at 20. No doubt about it. The earliest he would be taken (if not by us) would be #25 (Denver).

Barron isn't much of a need right now, but I would love if we took him...I would be happy with many picks at 20(Perry, Mercilus, Cox, Still, Kirkpatrick, Barron, Kuechily, Hightower, Floyd, Coples, Ingram, Decastro), and mad with only a few(Konz, Poe, Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Cordy Glenn) I wouldn't know what to think if we selected Gilmore, Chandler Jones, Upshaw, Kendall Wright or Stephen Hill. I think the odds of me being happy with our 1st round pick far outweigh the odds of me being mad or impervious.

I don't think I could really be mad with Konz... just because it means Amano's tardass is outta here.

But I definitely prefer many other players over Konz at #20.

Since when did we base our draft picks off of madden overalls? Do you realize how many of the great centers/guards in the league are late round picks? Their are too many holes defensively to go center that early, Barron on the other hand if able would be a good pick-up.

I'm not even convinced Konz is a first round pick to be honest, Barron will not make it past the Cowboys I don't believe.

If the Titans draft based on need we are gonna be screwed. However, if they stay true to their board we should be fine. Here is an example. RW said they had first round grades on 25 players. So when we are on the clock if 6 of those players remain they should be trading down 6 or perhaps 7 spots. They'll still be able to draft a first round talent, based on their evaluations of course, and pick up additional draft picks.

Teams that ALWAYS do this are the Packers and Patriots and they seem to have some of the better drafts year to year. In the pre free agency era, you had to pick need much more often, but now the Titans can plug the areas of need through free agency and just draft the best players they can.

Obviously the F.O. and coaching staff doesn't see center as the glaring hole that we the fans see. For better or worse they've decided to not address it in free agency, but taking Konz at 20 is a reach and not staying true to the board. Hell, we don't even know if they have Konz rated as a first round pick.
