The only "suck for the #1 pick" that happens is the fan base. No way in h*** the NFL goes to lottery, dont fix what aint broke

Screw the lottery draft system, it's no good, I actually hate it. But since I don't expect us to be picking in the top 10 for a long long time, this really doesn't matter for Titan fans.

You actually believe players and coaches intentionally "sucked for Luck"?
    Didn't happen.

I defiantly don't believe players and coaches deliberately lose games. I mean, not unless they're looking to get replaced.

Intentionally losing a game, and giving up mid game are two different things.

Would anybody here say that 59-0 shellacking by the Patriots a few years back was lost intentionally?

And if the coaches did, then it back fired and cost them all their jobs ... I think that is a bigger deterent for teams than a lottery.

But, for the sake of discussion, lets pretend that teams do tank at the end of a season. I don't see how a lottery really prevents teams from doing so, I think it just shifts who is tanking. If you allow the bottom 10 teams into the lottery, then the teams at 11-15 would be the teams tanking. Imagine it is week 16, you are the #15 team in the NFL, and are eliminated from playoff contention. Win out and stay at the 15 spot, or lose out and try to get into the lottery? If you do get into the lottery, then you have a shot at the #1 pick. Losing 2 games could take you from the #15 pick to the #1 pick ... the chance to move up 14 spots would be too tempting for some teams. You would then have teams in the 8-10 range that would have to tank in order to stay in contention for the #1 pick because the teams above them are trying to break into the top 10.

If teams are tanking right now(which I don't think they are), it is only the bottom few teams, and they are fighting for the top 3 spots ... the difference between #1 and #3 isn't that much ... the difference between #15 and #1 is a lot.

If you want to make the draft interesting, here is what you do ...

Each team is given a certain amount of points at the end of a season. The points would be based on how well your team performed the previous year. Teams that had the worst records get the most points, and teams with the best records get the least amount of points.

The NFL would "own" all of the picks in the draft, and the teams would have to "buy" the picks from the NFL. Teams would use their points to bid on picks, and the highest bidder for each pick is awarded that pick. If the Giants out bid everyone for the top pick, then it is theirs, but they would be sacrificing the rest of the draft for it since they just won the SB and don't have many pts . Colts decide they want to buy the entire 7th round instead of using points on rounds 1-6 Go for it, they're your points, do what you want to with them.

It sounds kinda out there, but I don't think would really be that much different than the draft is now. In reality the draft would line up about the way it would anyway since the top picks would be too expensive for the better teams that don't have as many points, but it gives everyone a chance to have any pick they want. It is similar to the way teams value their picks to trade now since most teams go off of a point system for trades, but I think it would allow a little more room for teams to move around since you wouldn't have to find trade partners to move up necessarily. It wouldn't eliminate trading picks either since teams would be slotted after all the picks had been bought, and could still trade picks if they wanted too during the draft. It would also make the really good GMs stand out since it would be that much more important to determine where the real value is in the draft before bidding on picks.

If you want to make it real crazy though, you can allow teams to the save points that they didn't use the year before. Maybe a team sucks for 10 years, saves up all their points and buys the entire 1st round.

I like it. More strategy. More opportunities. More interesting.

The entire coaching staff and front office got fired. Almost a third of the team was on IR at the end of the season. The Colts no longer have a waiting list for season tickets. Who exactly benefited from that situation?
