I know this, if amano is not the center we will run for more yards. CJ was an excellent reciever in college. I would prefer we throw him more screens in motion rather than the 5 yard curls. I do think 2000 yards total running and catching is a realistic expectation.

CJ as a reciever is a mixed bag.

Make an excellent sideline grab +25 yards downfield and then stone hand a dumpoff

CJ is hot and cold as a receiver

As a running back out in the flats he's ok, as a receiver lined up as a receiver he's better.

Coming out of the backfield, the passes are usually a little easier to catch, but if you don't make that 1st guy miss then the gain is usually minimal or for a loss. I think coming out of the flats CJ is more focused on what move he is going to make after the catch and loses focus on the ball.

When he is lined up out wide he seems to focus much more on making the catch, and not so much on the run afterward. My guess is because even if you get hit immediately after the catch, you are still getting a good gain. Its not quite as important to make that 1st guy miss.

CJ just needs to work on his focus coming out of the backfield, or shift him out to WR more often if you are trying to throw to him.

No, it's reflective that he doesn't have the power to fight off linebackers who are hitting him as he's catching the ball. It's apples to oranges. Look at Jones-Drew. He's a power back. What's his average? Now how about that scrub LeSean McCoy? What's his average?

CJ has come up big from time to time when sent on an actual route, but he's sent almost exclusively on check off routes.

I don't think I've ever watched a player that juggles balls as consistently as CJ. Between that and the check downs and telegraphed passes to him, I always cringe because he is consistently a sitting duck.
