Well glad to see that i could start a little bit of a debate. Honestly I never looked at his combine numbers... but in pads, on the field, he just doesn't seem to have the speed that many of you are saying his time should suggest. Before this topic I've never seen anyone mention anything about his "exceptional" speed honestly. The discussions could be out there but it was never anything made too prominent...

Eh, the last time I talked him up was the year we drafted Britt. He was on my late rounder list as a guy with possibility. I read that link I posted because a lot of us knew that IF the Titans drafted a WR it would likely come down to either Nicks or Britt. Add to that, Fisher loved 6' tall corners with speed. The fact the Titans went to Rutgers to see Britt made the chance of maybe getting McCourty a little more hopeful.

I even talked myself into thinking we'd have have to take him as high as the 4th to get him. I was ecstatic we got him in the 6th - AND that he's a starter for us now.

It's a much smaller version of Gunny's Cult of Reyanldo Hill. Much more personal, less organized, lol....

It's really a matchup thing with CBs. McCourty covers the 1's because of his speed/tackling while Verner is a better Nickle because of his quickness and exceptional tackling/instincts.

If Campbell continues to grow, he is easily one of the higher upside corners in the nfl. But his size probably halters a bit of his shiftiness. So putting him on a smaller shifter WR would probably not work out well.

This is the 1st time in a long time where I'm not worried about our CB's at all. We've got about as much depth as we've had here in TN. McCourty, Verner, Campbell are solid, but then we have Hawkins, Mouton, and Sensebough for depth behind them. All 3 are serviceable CB's.

If Rojo works out then we've got our DB lineup for years to come. Same with LB's if Brown works out. And the way the D-line's been playing, we may be set there as well with a little more depth.

I'm really excited about our defense this season. I'm expecting a lot of turnovers and a lot of disruption taking place. Similar to our 2008 season. The thing that really excites me is how young we are.

I wouldn't expect 2008 all over again. I like our young lineman too, but none of them are going to push the opposing line back into the QB's face like Haynesworth did in 2008. He made QB's throw off their back foot with no follow through, allowing our secondary to break on lame duck passes and intercept them. Finnegan and Griffin and the rest of the secondary for that matter, benefited tremendously from Haynesworth being incredibly dominate that season.

Very young. I still think we need more depth at the LB spot tho. Spoon most likely leaves next season. Another MLB would be nice. The other lbs are special team players more than anything else.

I agree. I worry about our depth at MLB. McCarthy needs to stay healthy.

McCarthy gets dinged up more than I like.

We don't have a player like Haynesworth on our line, but collectively, they could do just as much damage. Haynesworth's value was his ability to cause disruption. I'd say our line is very disruptive collectively if Marks can keep playing at a high level.

I'd argue that our backers are better than that unit as well. They're not nearly as experienced, and will give up plays, but they're more athletic IMO.

DB's, its a wash. Our safety play was better because Hope was balling back then, but our CB's might be better as a unit.

I know I'm an optimistic guy, but I really feel good about this unit and about Gray. I think through Gray's blitzing schemes will be comparable to the 2008 team in regards to our ability to force turnovers.
