Because they haven't yet convincingly beat any elite NFL teams. They have the tools in place, but it's a little early to be handing then that status. Just my opinion, of course, but I'll reserve judgement until I see them play a few more games against some real competition before I call them "great" or "elite".

They beat Pittsburgh (12-4), Cincinnati twice (9-7), and Atlanta (10-6) last season, Pitt isn't an elite team? They had the 2nd best defense in the league and a top 10 offense before schuab got hurt. They're even better this season...Stop hating, give respect where respect is due. Houston's brass has built a team better than anything we've seen in Tennessee for a decade.

Not hating, just telling you where I stand on Houston's "elite" status. Once they blow out Green Bay, the Giants, 9er's etc, I'll gladly concede the point.

Until then, they're a team that is playing well against average opponents, which is not my definition of "elite". Yours may be different than mine.

On paper we have the same thing except for an elite OL.

As for them beating the Steelers, Falcons, and Bengals:
Steelers were not elite early last season. They barely beat the Colts and they got blown out by the Ravens.
Falcons were no where near elite. Just because a team squeaks into the playoffs does not make them elite. How did they do in the playoffs? Thought so.
And the Bengals weren't very elite either. They're a team that relies on two (albeit good) rookies. Really, them getting in was more a testament to how BAD the AFC as a conference was than how GOOD they were.

So they have to "blow out" another elite team now? Since when is that a criteria? Sounds like you're hating.

How is San Fran an elite team then? What elite team have they blown out?

And really? NYG is in the same category as GB and San Fran?

lol, good one. Our defense is elite? not on paper, not on the field, not EVER.

Oh so now being elite is a constantly changing variable....gotcha. When the Texans beat them they aren't elite, but when no one else beats them, they are. Sounds awfully like you're a bitter old Titans fan.

I'm not saying the Falcons and Bengals were elite, but Houston beat them up pretty badly, with a backup QB also.

    So based on you're logic:

there are no elite teams in the league this year. San Francisco beat Green Bay, but Green Bay's not elite because who have they beaten? right? And they lost to SF which means they're just a good team like Houston because they couldn't beat another elite team. And because apparently you can be elite at one moment, but not elite the next moment with the same team still intact, then we can't even bring last year into it..So basically no one's elite. Great logic.

Giants did slightly better than Atlanta, Pittsburgh, or Cincinnati last season. Did better than GB or San Francisco too, unless I'm mistaken, by winning their 2nd SB in 5 years.

Go ahead and call Houston "elite" if you like, doesn't matter to me. I suppose we have different ideas of what the word means.

For me, "elite" at least makes it past the first playoff round once in franchise history. So far, Houston hasn't.

they did it last season when they blew out Cincinnati with their 3rd string QB. You wanna talk about elite?

They had a practice squad level player winning football games because of how well rounded that team is.

Ok, two and done in playoffs for first time in franchise history = "elite" by your definition. Beating the Bungles is quite the accomplishment. Gotcha.

I have a different idea of what "elite" means, so I see nothing to be gained by continuing to discuss the topic. You're certainly as entitled to your opinion as I am mine.

Hopefully we can agree that the Titans need a win this Sunday ;)
