Rams will allow S-Jax to test market in 2013
    [IMG]
CBS Sports' Pete Prisco reports the Rams have decided to allow Steven Jackson to void the final year of his contract, enabling the veteran back to reach unrestricted free agency in 2013.
Jackson failed to meet the incentives in his contract -- an average of 1,200 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards from 2008-2011 -- but the Rams agreed to renegotiate his deal in September to void the final year. He's still earning $7 million in the final year of a deal signed in August of 2008. Turning 30 years old next summer and battling a groin injury for the fourth time in six seasons, Jackson's best bet may still be returning to St. Louis next year.

Saw this on ESPN last night... 100% for it assuming the price is right. I think he would fit our system perfectly. However knowing Fisher he is going to run him into the ground this year so he will be useless

Forget price, you can't put a price on winning. And as is we're going to have trouble spending 90% of our cap. Get him in at whatever cost it takes, we'll have the money.

Oh yeah. Just like he did to Eddie George. ANd Jackson already has a ton of miles on his odometer.

Jackson has been having a bunch of his carries go to Richardson, so hopefully he'll be relatively fresh next season.

"Smash & Dash 2.0"? Does he have a time machine where he could grab the CJ from 2008-2009 or something?

Actually, I've always been an SJax fan. But at this point in his career I just don't think he really brings much to the table you couldn't get with another (younger) back/s, who doesn't already have 2500 carries under his belt. Plus there's the nagging injury issues that the blurb in the OP mentioned.

Guys with that many carries tend to eventually just hit the wall all of a sudden and become useless. And with our luck, he would hit that wall the day he signs a contract with us. I can rarely see the upside to signing 30+ year old backs. Much less one with so little tread left on the tires.

Besides, the last thing we need is to dump more money into the RB position.

Well we differ on a few points then. If we're going to spend that money, I'd rather see it go to other areas. And I'm not convinced that adding SJax increases our chances of winning anyway.
